Hi JohnD, Both my Pc and my neighbours Laptop have AMD Chips and separate graphic cards. I've looked at the Watchdog Folder and they are empty. However as you seem to suggest the problem may be due to graphics I shall check that out and see what I find.
    Thank you.

Having said that a few weeks a ago my graphics card booted upnwth red bands etc down the screen and clicking anything on my screen resulted in a lock of my PC. I dropped the mem clock to a lower setting and gradually brought it back up to normal and had no issues since

Reliability History Hardware Error Unknown Cause

Hi, Further to my previous quotes and the suggestion that the Graphics Card may be involved I decided to look into it.
I found that an auto-update had recently been applied to my AMD Card and on going into Task Manager and Start Up I found that 'Radeon Settings' was disabled. I enabled it and on booting up this morning there was NO problem with Hardware reported and all seems well. I'll be keeping a watch on it over the next few days and should the problem reappear I'll let you know, otherwise my aspect of this problem seems to be resolved.
    Thanks.

Nice troubleshooting work, Yorky and AntJac. It's always helpful to have a clue as to the source of a distemper, as well as the symptoms.

Strange as Radeon settings still booted up for me. What card do you have? Mine is a HD7970

Sounds like it somehow got overclocked and that caused it to puke. I would leave it to default recommended and watch it for the next 30 days. Throw some GPU intense benchmarking like Passmark and run it overnight a few nights to see what happens. Then in 30-45 days, run Passmark again and see what the difference is. You may want to print the reports so that you can sit and compare them while taking some downtime.

Crimson was supposed to replace Catalyst. There is some garbage crapware that AMD forces to be installed. You just have to go into Programs and Features to remove that junk.

Many thanks for that. I started a new thread in it here when it happened and setting the Memory clock down a few notches and gradually going back up to the original setting seems to have worked. I can't see how it could have been over clocked as I never set it higher than its stock settings and when I did boot it up when it happened, my PC had been off for around 9 hours.

My card is an HD7700 and once again on booting-up today there was no Hardware Error shown in the Reliability Monitor. I don't use the computer for games. I agree that there is far too many unwanted items included when downloading any AMD update and I didn't find this problem when using an Nvidia Card in an earlier PC but then lots of programs have to be carefully watched now.

Did you try removing the updated stuff and just install the most current from the laptop mfg. Support website. What laptop do you have? If your APU/CPU/GPU is an AMD, then the Intel should not be active unless you connect to something. Sounds to me that you got hit with a buggy driver update from AMD.

Now there are some of the higher end laptops that you can swap out the GPU card.

Reliability History Hardware Error Unknown Cause

Just got this again as i booted up. No BSOD or anything. Just noticed at the time i started my PC in Reliability History:

    Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
    Code: ab
    Parameter 1: 9
    Parameter 2: 300
    Parameter 3: 590
    Parameter 4: 600000005
    OS version: 10_0_14393

    Product: 256_1
    OS Version: 10.0.14393.2.0.0.256.48

Edit: It seems like this is a widespread issue caused by November updates:

Correct. People are disabling that or even rolling back to Windows 7 because of the disaster that Microsoft has made of Windows 10. I forsee a lot of people abandoning Windows 10 by the time that Microsoft rolls out "Let's make everyone a graphic designer" version of Windows 10. The only good thing about Redstone 2 is that they are making Defender caught up to more modern Anti-Malware programs.
