Windows 10: Relocating System Storage Folders

I'm currently running an SSD drive for my operating system. It's only 120 GB and what to do is move the storage folders (ie, My Music, My Videos, My Documents, etc etc etc) to another drive to reduce strain on the SSD Drive. As we all know SSD Drives can be fickle, but so far, it's run flawlessly. I'd like to keep it that way. Plus it's going to fail eventually, and it's a lot easier just to reinstall the operating system then to hope backup files didn't aren't corrupt or missing.

I know this an incredibly easy question, but it's been so long since I've messed this area of files, I just want to make sure I get it right the 1st time and Windows 10 is going to recognize where these folders were moved to. A step by step would be appreciated.

• It would be awkward relocating to a removable drive such as a USB-connected external drive but there is nothing to stop you doing so. You would never be able to remove the drive while Windows was running without causing problems.
• You can relocate user folders to another permanent drive in your computer without any problems. Indeed, that is probably the normal place to relocate them. Mine are all relocated to a second HDD to reduce storage space used on my OS drive so that I can
  make frequent system images.

Relocating the Documents Folder caused it to be renamed as Music Folder

I was relocating the system folders downloads, documents, music etc to a HDD rather than the SSD when I made a mistake, relocating the music folder as the root of drive E:. Unaware of the mistake I then relocated the Documents folder to E:\Documents, a warning
came up after the create folder prompt, I thought I was backing out of the change by clcking no to the warning about system folders within system folders but it went through. So now my Documents folder is labled Music, I have managed to relocate the Music
and Documents folders to their correct places but the name has stuck to the Documents - I have two Music folders!

Any ideas on how to put the correct name back would be gratefully accepted...

 

You need to create a folder(s) with the same name as the library(ies) on the drive you want to use(go to properties of newly created folder and give it the correct icon).

• Then go to the Library and right click,
• Choose properties,
• Go to Location tab,
• Click find target and tree down to your newly created folder
• Then click move and wait until everything has been moved,
• Click apply
