I don't think there is a fix for what you're encountering. Since it's not a true bug I don't see the reason to fix anything at this point.

lol... I think some of you guys would say it wasn't a bug if your computer wouldn't restart... MS intended it... Win10 is perfect, etc...

I'll keep looking elsewhere... thanks again for the input.

That's like saying, "I'm not here to argue with you that amphibians are not mammals, I just want my iquana to be warm blooded".

I'm trying to say that there is no "fix" in the traditional sense, unless Microsoft decides to change this (which seems unlikely).

You will have to take matters in your own hands. I already suggested a possible workaround, using WindowPad, but you haven't even looked into it.

For the other guy that was having problems with this intended behavior... check out this link. I never had problems in previous versions of windows, but apparently other people have experienced this intended behavior. This was made for win7 but I just tried it out and it seems to be working. Hope it helps you out. ShellFolderFix - Manage folder window positions/size - Windows 7 Help Forums

Seems to work some of the time and not others? It also happens for me for other windows instead of just File Explorer.

Can I ask if you have your taskbar at the bottom or not? And if you size windows by Aero-snapping-to 50%, or manually resizing theh window to half of the screen?

I use Windows Manager and you can apply it to any apps. Works great.

    Remember window position?

I keep my taskbar at the bottom, but I can say that there were people specifically reporting the intended behavior when they had their taskbar at the top in the feedback tool.

I usually just size my window manually based on what I am doing and return it to roughly 3/4 of the screen when I'm not working on something specific. There was a setting in that program to return it to your main window size even if you temporarily change it. Check the dropdown boxes... not sure if that will help.

I'm beginning to think this is related to the "Windows Snap" feature which first debuted in Windows 7, more specifically the updates they made to it for Windows 10.

In contrast to Drybonz I tend to freqently snap windows/programs to half the screen using Windows Snap, instead of manually resizing them. In Windows 10, they have a new thing where when you snap something to half the screen, you can select which Window you want to fill the other half:

So window sizes are constantly getting re-drawn, so to speak.

If I use touch, and drag a window to the edge of a screen to initiate the half-screen-snap, it snaps the second my finger reaches the edge of the screen. With a mouse, drag-and-dropping a window to the edge of a screen, it resizes upon releasing the left mouse button. However, notice the ghost projection it does before I release the left-mouse button. See how it overlaps the notepad window and isn't positioned directly at the top or right of the right side of the screen (it doesn't join the taskbar or right screen edge)?

The File Explorer window does snap into place normally when I release the left mouse button, reaching the edge of Notepad and the top/right/bottom of the screen on the right side, but once it is closed and re-opened again we see the 'moving window' issue.

The snap feature might be taking it beyond what the utility in that link I posted is able to fix. I hope you are able to get it fixed. If you find something post here for others that might be struggling with this. Best of luck.

  12. For the record, I've noticed this behavioral "bug" as well, never got it with any version of 8.1, and officially am calling this an annoyance. Looking forward to a future OS fix for this since I can't really see why anyone would want auto-cascading over the position memory that every other program follows.

    Remember window position?

this has been bothering me since I got Win 10. I know for a fact what I needed to do in order to temporarily save the windows position. it works -in earlier versions- with EVERY window. :: maximize windows, restore size and then close:: this will save the window position and size. to be clear: if you open the window -or program for that matter- and you don't/didn't have it maximized this doesn't concern you. but I don't like it when the windows explorer completely fills the screen. so I noticed this in the first minutes after having Win 10 and furthermore: it didn't/doesn't work with Win 10. if this is intentional I don't know, but why is the windows explorer window the ONLY window/program where this doesn't work??!!

after reading this thread today I have to find a solution to this problem. and I say problem, because since early Win XP I have a 'special place' on my desktop where the windows explorer has been. and it always opens in the same place and size. so far I really like the changes in Win 10. if I find a solution, I will let you know. especially Drybonz

::so I am playing around with the settings and I have found something interesting: when you change the 'Taskbar location on screen' to 'Top' or 'Left' then Windows remembers the win explorer position..

Well it seems like putting the taskbar on the top works in keeping all windows centered on the desktop no matter how many times you open, close and reopen them. Now I just have to see if I can get used to the taskbar on the top. Thanks for your tip Bro.

I tried the taskbar at the top and at the left and I still have File Explorer moving slightly downward and slightly to the the right each successive open close open.
