and I also use 'Total Commander'. but you should read the whole thread: windows explorer and microsoft edg are the ONLY programs/windows that do not reopen in the same position. so what is your point?

    well.. ok then.

I'm a little confused. this is the win 10 forum, is it not? I was under the impression that we are discussing a win 10 issue. 3rd party programs may solve this new-win10-issue, but I am reminding everybody: in previous versions windows remembered the window/program position of the windows explorer. in win 10 when windows explorer is reopened it opens in a new location and only the windows explorer and the new microsoft edge have this 'problem'. why should I use 3rd party programs to avoid/deal/bypass this issue?? so thank you chezz for your comment, but if I want an apple, don't give me a banana.

    Remember window position?

Windows *does* remember its previous window position. That's the part most people don't seem to understand.

The issue is that File Explorer remembers your last position, then deliberately adjusts itself to be "cascaded" off of it. It's not that the position isn't remember, as it is. It's that Explorer decides to adjust itself based on that remember position.

    ok. let me rephrase :

the windows explorer window -when not maximized- always opens in a new location. even if the new location is only off by a few pixels. when I say the previous position isn't remembered I mean that when you close and reopen the window/program -if it hasn't been maximized- it doesn't open in the exact same location.

are you using win 10 mystere? have you tried this yourself? I don't know how the opening sequence is scripted. I realize that the old_position must be in that sequence somewhere. but it's not: 'reopen the window and the new_location=old_location' something more like: 'reopen the window and it's new_location=old_location + cascaded and offset by factor n.'

so, yes. your way is a better way of saying: why is it that win 10 windows explorer deliberately adjusts itself to be "cascaded" off of it's old location when reopened?

    better mystere?

  11. Please tell me this is a joke...Right?

The feature of remembering folders size and position was taken out all the way back in Win 7.
A guy create ShellFldrFix or some name to fix the problem and it worked great but was never updated for later versions of windows.

Back in Vista and XP days there was a bug involving the bags MRU and once it ran out of space to save a folders position things would go awkward. Why keep these values in registry is beyond me. They could have even deleted earlier values after so long of not being used.

Anyway, THOUSAND'S of complaints to Microsoft about them taking it out the same as Aero Glass and they are ignored.

I even read somewhere a MS Engineer said, no one complained or thought anything about it.

Hence we now have Windows 10 which is nothing but an Engineers wet dream.
    Built for Engineers BY Engineers.
I seriously believe Win 10 will fall flat on it's face.

I have already disables as much as I can and use Classic Shell being as the new Start Menu will display Live tiles at a high resolution but being Native Apps are placed on tiles that you can't scale they are all half height.

I even went as far as removing One Drive and every app that forces me to log into MS servers in order to use it.

  12. I had no problem with any of the windows in Win7 remembering the location it was last in before closing. Some of the programs could not remember to open in my 2nd monitor, but they all at least remembered their location on my main monitor. Occasionally I would get a program that would not remember its last position so I would have to force it to remember by holding down the shift key when clicking on the "x" to close the program, then it would remember its position thereafter.

All of that seems to work fine in Win10, EXCEPT with File Explorer, which wants to open up against one corner of the screen (for me it was always the top left corner, but starting yesterday it started opening against the top right).

Funny how you don't think much about those gem features until they're gone. Would love a fix/workaround that does not involve a third party software that has to stay running all the time.

    *Wink
windows *does* remember the old location... -just messing with you mystere-*Cool

but seriously: it seems some people recognize this, because it bothers them and some people don't know what all the fuss is about. so I conclude that we who are bothered by the new-win10-issue may feel a disturbance in our work flow.. hence the first post from drybonz:
