Windows 10: Remote Assistance control problem

I needed to help a friend prepare his laptop for the Anniversary Update yesterday. My PC (Windows 10 Pro) and his laptop (Windows 10 Home) were both setup correctly for Remote Assistance, including Windows Firewall settings. Everything worked properly except I had no control of his laptop, either with keyboard or mouse. I could see his desktop and everything he did on it, so I was able to talk him through what needed to be done. But I could have done it all in much less time with control. Are there any special things that must be done to get control other than normal steps outlined in readily available sets of instructions online?

As I remember, ZOHO is primarily a commercial online provider of business services such as group working/file sharing etc. in a similar fashion to Google/Microsoft but on a smaller scale. In fact, they say that they partner with Google Docs to deliver some
services. There are numerous independent reviews of their services and software online. Many of those reviews are aimed at 'small' business users because that is one of ZOHO's main target groups, although they do also provide some 'free usage' options that
are open to individuals or small groups.

Disclaimer: UnfortunateIy, I can't provide any advice on whether any of their software is "safe to use" as I don't have comprehensive public liability insurance, and any such advice would make me personally liable if you followed it and
something went wrong. I would suggest you use some of the independent reviews/user experiences available on-line to make up your own mind about whether the ZOHO Corporation's 's services and software are worth trying. It describes itself as an International
Corporation so it shouldn't be too difficult to check out.

If you are both using at least build 14383 or later, you could try Quick Assist to see if it may work better for you.

Thanks for your reply, Brink. But we were both on 1511 for that session. The friend I was helping isn't a Windows Insider and I wasn't on my Insider box. Maybe things will be better after the Anniversary Update.

 

It'll definitely help make remote assistant connections easier to do.
