Windows 10: Remote Desktop Connection Issue [SOLVED]

Hi,


I have 4 computers on a peer-to-peer network. Two of the PCs can log into any PC on the network using Remote Desktop Connection while the other two cannot log into any of them. The two that cannot log into any other computer, displays the error message below. I have looked at group policies, registry values and some other settings and I cannot find why two work and two do not.

I finally figured out the issue. The cause was Bitdefender Free blocking RDP on the client computer. Disabling Bitdefender confirmed it. Although all my computers were using it, Bitdefender was only blocking it for some PCs. Removing Bitdefender and using Windows Defender resolved the issue. The error message give no clue that this can be a firewall issue. I recommend Microsoft modify the error message or provide a new one that mentions a firewall issue as a possible cause.

Remote Desktop Connection problems


Have you tried Remote Desktop Connection, to connect from your Windows 10 laptop to your Windows 7 desktop? Try it first, post back and tell how it went.

Some additional help because you mentioned you are a remote newbie *Wink. The windows 7 related tutorials from our sister site the Seven Forums:

1. On Windows 7 desktop, set network location to either Home or Work (I recommend Work):

2. On Windows 7 desktop, allow incoming remote connections:

3. On Windows 7 desktop, find out its IP address:

4. On Windows 10 laptop, start the Remote Desktop application and connect to the Windows 7 desktop using the IP address from step 3 above (see Part Three in the tutorial):
   • RDC - Connect Remotely to your Windows 10 PC - Windows 10 Forums
   • Notice that although the tutorial is written for Windows 10, it also applies to Windows 7

Try the above, post back how it went.

 

Remote desktop connectivity issues

What if the windows OS is in the virtual machine based cloud and I cannot remotely connect inside then how I suppose to set back the local group policy and windows firewall ?

I've tried but failed.

I'm facing issues while connecting to remote desktop connection from Windows 10 PC to Windows 7 PC.

I also contact the online tech support. They suggested me to reinstall win10 system to override the missing files. But still can't solve my problem.

I'll post my query in TechNet forums to see if there is a solution.
