Windows 10: Remove Default File Opener Completely

I recently accidentally set .package files to open using "Imaging Devices Control Panel" (whatever that is) and it's driving me crazy that the icons are changed. All I want to do is make it so there is no program set to open .package files. I saw a post about this issue with a really detailed answer by DaveM121. I followed all the steps but after I restarted my computer the files still defaulted to open using that app and the icons are still weird. The app is listed under "Keep using this app" when I go to change the default opening program. I don't have the "Always use this app to open .package files" option checked. I would appreciate any help to completely get rid of any default program set to open the files. Thanks.

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild


Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

There's a possibility that Firefox isn't uninstalled completely on your computer. We suggest that you uninstall it in the
Settings app by following these steps:

• On Start, select that cog icon or Settings.
• Go to Apps and select the program that you want to uninstall.
• Select Uninstall and follow the instructions on the screen.

This will completely remove Firefox from your system and from the Default Apps list. You can also check and save this article that in case you need a guide to

opening .dds files with gimp

Simply, HOW? I got the DDS plugin but the POS wont open DDS files still. Can someone give me a step-by-step rundown of how to install the DDS plugin for gimp so I know if I'm missing something?
