Windows 10: Remove Quick access from Navigation Pane in Windows 10

Sorry. You're screenshot shows a dot "." in front of CLSID. That's not the correct location. You'll need to scroll down past the list file extensions to find "CLSID" without a dot.

I followed the steps in the this tutorial and was able to remove the Quick Access feature from the navigation pane of Windows Explorer - thanks for this.

However, the Quick Access feature can still be seen in the navigation pane of the save dialog explorer when trying to save a file from a web browser, for example. Do you have any tips on how to remove the Quick Access feature from this location as well?

If you have a 64-bit Windows 10, did you also do step 10?

What web browser did this happen in? I'll test on my system.

 

I wouldn't have thought it mattered, but I think that I may have forgotten to restart my web browser after making the registry changes. I just restarted my computer, and everything is working as expected now - your directions are bulletproof.

Cannot get it to work with latest Insider update (got it today) - 14926.1000.
It says:
Cannot import XXX.reg: Not all data was successfully written to the registry. some keys are open by the system or other process, or you have insufficient privileges to perform this operation.
Tried with PSTools (found guide on sam site), but nothing hel

This indicates that not all of steps 4 and 5 were done before trying to merge the .reg file.

 

Double-whammy! Removes Quick Access clutter from the Navigation Pane AND prevents users from accidentally dragging and dropping folders inside others. *Biggrin

I tried the tutorial using Command Prompt (Admin).

I tried Step 4, "change the owner of the ShellFolder registry key in the left pane to be the Administrators group".

Comment #1: When I clicked "Permissions", I did not see a multi-tabbed dialog, as in your screenshot. I saw only one tab "Security".

Comment #2: I selected "Administrators" and then "Allow" and "Full Control". When I clicked "Apply", I got the message "Unable to save permission changes on ShellFolder. Access is denied."

Please advise me how to proceed.

It seems that you may not have changed the owner of the "ShellFolder" key to "Administrators". Double check to see if you did.
