Windows 10: Removing old virtual switches

I will try direct ethernet connection. Maybe it is a wifi issue.

 

Does anybody know how to remove these old virtual switches?

Hyper-V VM External Virtual Switch for Wifi adapter Not Working after Upgrade to Windows 10

After I upgraded Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Enterprise, My existing VM external virtual switch stopped working. I then removed the existing switch and tried to create a new external virtual switch with wifi adapter. Everytime I try, I get an error:

- I tried to remove existing network adapter from device manager (show hidden network), still it did not work

- I tried reinstalling Hyper-V VM, it did not help either

I'm absolutely stuck in Hyper-V since it lost connectivity. I removed all the virtual switches but now I'm unable to create new ones. Whenever I try to create a new one, either external, internal or private, I just get:

Error applying Virtual Switch Properties changes

Failed while creating virtual Ethernet switch.

Switch create failed, name = '(some hexa address'), friendly name = 'Some Switch': Invalid class string (0x800401F3).

Working with PowerShell ends with the same result:

Any idea on how to fix this?

PS: Should be obvious, but "reinstall Windows" is out of the table.

PD: Removing and adding the Hyper-V feature again won't solve it.

 

Can you see them in Virtual Switch Manager? If not, check if they can be seen in elevated PowerShell with cmdlet Get-VMSwitch. If shown, delete with Remove-VMSwitch -Name SwitchName.

 

That did not work but the answer was simple - just uninstall them from device manager.

I am having an issue since 17134.1 whereby if I use external switch, my download speeds on host are massively reduced. Others have been getting this issue.

If you connect using the default switch, all is fine but then the NAT prevents you RDPing to VM.

The solution allegedly is to create an internal switch, and from network and sharing, give the internal switch a static IP address, and then bridge the Host wifi adaptor to the internal switch.

I have tried this, and it immediately disables Internet on the Host.

Does anybody have any idea how to fix this?

Open port 3389 on the VM ensure firewalls OK

say NAT addr is 10.0.0.1

then in your RDP this should work 10.0.0.1:3389

Actually, once I deleted all the old switches and recreated the internal switch, it now works fine!

It can sometimes be a mess when working with network adapters and Hyper-V switches in Windows.

So I just tested everything on my end, and all works exactly as it should, once I enabled access for RDP on my VMs.

I spoke too soon. I got the switches and RDP working but I still get a massive download reduction (as I did using an external switch). Oddly upload is not affected

And here it is with wifi NOT Bridged but an eternal switch, now using the vEthernet adaptor.

Something is clearly screwed up.

 

Yep, I get 1/10 of speed on my VM-Host (30Mbit), while on the VM I get full speed (350Mbit). HAHAHA!

 

Really strange guys. I have the same speed with an external switch than without. In fact, I have noticed that my DL speed will often exceed the 100 Mbps I am paying for when using external switch (goes up to 110 - 115).

 

This is so odd.

Now I tested my network speeds on 2 computers and one VM, using a different tool. They all reported pretty much the same speeds after multiple tests. Variance was less than 0.6% (2Mbit variance on 30 tests total, 10 each using WiFi, LAN and Hyper-V-Switch over WAN 350Mbit).


Why do I get these numbers now? LOL!
