    Replacing linux with 10?

So I had windows 8 which over time, I digitally upgraded to 8.1 then 10. As I upgraded to 10 I never got a key or anything.

A few weeks into 10 a buddy wanted me to try linux mint to see how I liked it, which I do a lot however it's more of a a hassle than anything for my use age.

How do I get back to Windows 10? Won't I need a key to reinstall? I read something somewhere about you can because of something to do with computer specs? I just don't want to start the install and get stuck halfway in.

    :)

    Replace Linux with Windows 10

Hi Alex, do you want to wipe Linux off that system and install Windows 10 or dual boot Linux and Windows 10 ?

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool

Then insert the Flash Drive into the laptop

Boot your laptop into BIOS (Usually F2 or Del key on the Manufacturers logo)

Change the boot order so the Flash Drive is top of the boot order list

Save changes in BIOS and restart

The laptop should boot from the Flash Drive and begin the Windows 10 installation

NOTE: during the installation process, your system will reboot, at that point, you may need to go into your BIOS and change the boot order so your system boots from your Hard Drive, otherwise the installation may start all over again - do not remove the installation
    media at this point

During the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option 'I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC'

You will not need a key. When you upgraded, a digital signature of your hardware was sent to Microsoft.

So, when you reinstall, you simply hit skip on the screens to put in the key. When it tries to activate, it will see the same digital signature and your copy will just activate.

Search for the Microsoft media creation tool to download the copy of Windows 10 you are licensed for. This part is free.

If you skip key you will be asked for Windows 10 Home or Pro. Make sure you chose the right version, or you won't be able to activate. Before trying Linux, have a look at System Properties to see which version you have. This is the version you must chose during reinstall. If you want only to try Linux, the safest it to dual-boot or install it in a virtual machine. To dual-boot, you have to shrink your Windows partition to make room for Linux. If you are not familiar with Linux, it is safer to create two new partitions from Windows. One large for the OS and one small (a little larger than your RAM) for the swap file. Format them as NTFS or FAT32, doesn't matter. When in Linux setup, format the large as EXT3 or EXT4 and the small as Linux swap. Then continue with the setup. Linux will install Grub or another boot loader to choose between Linux and Windows. To wipe Linux and return to Windows, boot into Windows, delete the Linux (unknown) partitions and then expand the Windows partition to take all space again. Then boot with Windows 10 DVD-ROM and repair startup to restore Windows boot loader.
