  1. Replacing my hard drive

I've been advised elsewhere on the forum that the hard drive in my PC needs to be replaced with urgency.

I've never replaced such an important component before and I'm concerned about choosing a drive that will suit my needs and fit into the position left by the old one.

    There seem to be four options;
    • Use a large traditional hard drive with a windows partition
    • Buy the largest SSD I can afford, maybe downgrading slightly in disk space but increasing reliability.
    • Try to find a hybrid drive, which seems to be what I had before (not sure how to tell for sure)
    • Buy both a small ssd for windows and a second, traditional internal hard drive for data.

If you require more information than is on my spec profile please let me know.

Thanks everyone! Unfortunately this breakdown has happened just as my university semester is beginning, hence the urgency!

    :)

  2. Windows 10, Occasional Error, No Hard Drive, after Hard Drive Replacement

    Hi,

System corruption can cause issues detecting your computer's hard drive. For us to properly investigate on your concern, we'd like to confirm the following information:

    • On which cases do you receive the startup error?
    • Aside from replacing the hard drive, have you made any significant changes to your device prior to this happening?
    • Have you tried plugging in the replaced hard drive to another computer to check if the same thing occurs?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

We will be waiting for your reply so we can move forward to resolving your query.

  3. Overclock your hard drive!!!

Heres a much easier hack that I realized quite a few years ago that really does work!

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Hard drive with molex power connection.
    • PSU with more than 1 strand that has molex plugs on it.
    • Wire strippers, soldering iron if you're fancy, electrical tape if you're not.
    STEPS:
    • Take the strand of connectors from your PSU, and decide which one will be the donator for this overclocking adventure.
    • Cut the yellow and orange cables, then twist them together.
    • Find the power connector you've chosen as the overclocking connector, and release the orange cable from the connector. Now use your preferred method to bind them together, then place it back together.
    • Plug in a drive and feel the speed!
Congratulations! You've just overclocked your hard drive!
