  1. Request help locking in specific drivers for some devices during Windows 10 updates

Is there a way to keep Windows updates, like 1909, from changing specific drivers? I had the Group Policy Editor set to "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs”, yet 1909 ignored that setting and changed all of those drivers to obsolete generic Microsoft drivers dated 2006 that do not work, rendering my PC useless until I reverted back to 1809. I even tried to re-install the correct drivers, but 1909 refused to even allow that.

Thus my specific question, is there any way to update to 1909 or beyond and still retain the newer drivers that work correctly for specific devices?

    :)

a request for device descriptor request failed

Maybe it's time to step back from the current efforts, and start over. I suggest you read over this excellent tutorial and try all of its steps: [Solved] Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) for Windows 10 - Driver Easy. The one that may provide you with some easy relief is the one where you uninstall the device whose descriptor is failing, reboot, and see what happens when device enumeration recurs during boot-up. If you're lucky, it will fix itself.

[Windows 10] hide/prohibit install of specific Windows Update

I have never intentionally used windows to provide my device drivers (except for older printers without Vendor drivers for clients). I only manually update from the vendor websites. Will just have to make a list of things to disable/remove if I finally decide to load it up on a machine.
