  1. Reset Java Environment Variable Path

I had to restore my PC to factory settings because of a virus (maybe overkill, not sure) and reinstalled the Java JDK and editing the Environment Variable for Path.

    First try gave me this:

Second try gave me this (I can't remember how):

Reset Java Environment Variable Path [IMG]

I'm trying to restore the Path variable value to its default state so that I may try again from the beginning... In Command Prompt "javac HelloWorld.java" didn't work for both the first and second scenario. Was I to add "; C:\<User>\Documents\Java\;" after the first scenario's "bin" path for my compiler to function? That directory is where my HelloWorld.java file is located.

Regardless, I'd like to reset my Path to its original state so I may try again. Any assistance is appreciated as establishing the correct path wasn't nearly as complicated earlier this semester...

Edit: In a squirt of inspiration I tried changing "jre" in scenario 2 to "jdk" but that was fruitless. Resetting it to its original value would be the best course of action right now.

    :)

    Wrong Variable Box Opens

    Running Windows 10, 64 bix

    Running JDK: jdk1.7.0_80

I am installing Java SDK (installed, not a problem).

So I am trying to configure my PATH settings to finish out the install of the Java SDK and I am trying to do it for Windows 10.

Problem is when I get to the "Environment Variables" and set the PATH variable. In a nutshell, I am getting a different window then what the directions show/say.

    For example:

Here are all of the steps I am trying to complete: Java-Buddy: Install JDK 8 on Windows 10, and set Path

And on the last steps, when I have clicked through to System Properties> Environment Variables box>

Reset Java Environment Variable Path [IMG]

Click on the word "PATH" in the lower box labeled "System Variables"

Reset Java Environment Variable Path [IMG]

then click on the "edit" button, the box that comes up for me (this happens on my laptop and PC :-/ ) is the "Edit Environment Variable" box!!! :-(

Reset Java Environment Variable Path [IMG]

It should open a 2 line window "Edit System Variable" and have 2 lines....Variable Name & Variable Value.

++Note++ This is a screen shot of what should open, not what happens for me.

Again I am getting the same behavior from installing on my laptop and my desktop.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

When I run the command line prompt "java" (no quotes), it runs fine

When I run the command line prompt "java -version" (no quotes), I get these 3 lines returned:

Reset Java Environment Variable Path [IMG]

When I run the command line prompt "javac" (no quotes),

Thanks for your time and expertise to a noob! I know, we were all there once

    Regarding path in environment variables

    Hello Siva,

To recover the deleted path in your system, we suggest that you restore your PC from a system restore point. See
Recovery options in Windows 10. It provides multiple solutions for you to undo the changes made on your PC prior to having
the issue. Click on Restore from a system restore point. Follow the instructions provided.

Note: Before performing any of the recovery options in Windows 10, always make sure that you back up all your important files and data.

Hope this answers your query. Let us know if you need further assistance.

    Reset Java Environment Variable Path

Unless you have a backup of your registry, the only way I can think of to restore PATH to it's original state is to do a System Restore to before you changed it.
