Reset Start Layout in Windows 10

    Hi,

Since the upgrade to 1709 yesterday I too am experiencing problems with the start menu. The event log records a "Faulting module path: C:\Windows|ShellExperiences/StartUI.dll" msg every time I left clicked on Start Menu. Ran the Start Menu Troubleshooter from your tutorial & it tells me the "Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHost" and "Microsoft.Windows.Cortana" applications need to be installed correctly.

Short story this all lead me here & like HollowKnight I am unable to create a TileDataLayer folder under my new local user account. I created another temp account as you suggested, no luck.
Am I looking at a How to Do a Repair Install of Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade as well?
Would rolling back to the previous version fix it?

    Thank you

    Hello dogpark, *Smile

A repair install should be able to repair the issues found in the troubleshooter.

    Hi Brink,

Sadly the repair install did not fix my problem. Still getting same result from the start menu troubleshooter & logging the same msgs in event viewer. I did attempt the Reset Start Menu Layout to Default tutorial again, alas no TileDataLayer folder *Sad.
I suppose a Clean Install (Reset?) is next?

I see many posts regarding this Start Menu issue (answers microsoft) & some say even after a Clean Install the problem persists. It did just start with the Fall Update v1709. Do you think there is a fix coming as some of the posts on Microsoft Answers Community suggest?

    Thank you

If you create a new account on the PC, does the new account have the same issue?

No, the new account works perfectly - just as the builtin Administrator account does. I thought about just keeping it.

So, I did just finish performing a Reset & Start Menu is back to normal now. Probably not a bad thing, don't think I've done a clean install since Windows 7.

Thanks again SOOO much for your wonderful tutorials *Smile
