Archquark, the Update History will only show what was installed/failed through WU (Windows Update). It is basically a running log of WU History. Even though Shawn's tutorial batch file will clean out the history, the actual status of updates is still available. The history and the installed base are stored in two different places. To see the actual status of installed updates, do one of the following:

Click on "Uninstall Updates" in upper left corner of update history (it will not start uninstalling anything, it's safe)....

or navigate in control panel to "Installed Updates"...

You could also search, type "installed updates"...

Any of these will show you the actual installed updates, security and hotfixes and cumulative, but not such things as Windows Defender updates or Flash updates.

    Cheers! Tomcat

Thanks F14Tomcat, I appreciate the information. I probably saw this info before but my 66 year old memory is not as good as it once was.

Hello guys, thank you for your guide.
I downloaded the .bat, executed, and now all Windows apps are unrecognized from Windows 10 *Sad
Also when I launch the taskmanager, Windows say with a Yellow alarm that the task manager is unrecognized *Eek
I rebooted my SP4 and the problem still here.
Could you help me to fix it?

Update: sfc /scannow (it was locked for a while at 100% oddly) or something in background, fixed the problem *Biggrin

Hello psychok9, and welcome to Ten Forums. *Smile

I'm glad you hear you got it sorted, but you must of had some other unrelated issue happening at the same time since nothing in the .bat file could have caused that.

  10. Shawn, after pointing this tutorial to numerous people whose updates weren't working, there were some cases when this script went into loop and there was no way of escaping from it-Specially when any of the 4 services were starting or stopping.
Could you please improve this-(I am sure you will) such that it doesn't stuck in a loop when the service is starting/stopping.Either it should exit or stop execution or something similar?
    Thanks.

    Hello Sumit, *Smile

They should be able to kill it in Task Manager if needed, but I'll see if I can get a counter added to the loop soon to have it give a failure message and end if a service cannot be stopped.

    @Sumitdhiman

Ok. I have updated the .bat file to include a counter in the loop. If a service fails to stop after 3 attempts, the .bat file will automatically end with a failure message and prompt to press a key to continue. When a key is pressed, the .bat file will then restart ay service it had stopped before closing. *Smile

    It was my pleasure.

It wasn't too much to add the code. The hardest part was jogging my memory on DOS. LOL

  15. I've done numerous attempts to get Windows 10 to update without any success. I tried using the recommended

"Failed to reset Windows update due to bit service failing to stop"

Does this make any sense to you?
