    Restore backup data error 0x8100001A

My computer was attacked by Malware. I took a backup of the data and reset my PC the OS. I ran a scan of my external hard drive which contains my backup and some threats were detected and removed. Now I'm trying to restore the data through Control Panel> System and Security > Backup and Restore Windows 7 because that's how I had backed up the data.

    It shows an error:
Restore encountered a problem while validating the zip file :

    <File path...\Backup files 2559.zip>

The following information may help resolve the problem:

The backup file could not be found. Make sure the drive that the backup is saved on is attached or try to restore from a different backup. 0x8100001A

The file that is indicated in the error message above, was the file that was a threat according to windows defender and was "taken action" against.

Please guide me as to how I can successfully restore my files. Thanks.

Edit: Ran into some issue with Windows Defender. Here's my post from the same, it was easily resolved by Kyle Angel Bayani.

    Error 0x8100001a - Backup/Restore (Win7)

I had to do a new reinstall of Windows 10 and received this error when trying to restore from my external backup drive.

Originally the backup drive was G, but after the reinstall, it became H. I changed it back to G in Disk Management, and applied the SDUTIL with no errors (Windows 7 Backup Recovery Error 0x8100001a - Microsoft Community).

I still get this error message.

    Any ideas?

  3. Error 0x8100001a Windows 7 Backup Recovery Using Win 10

I had to reinstall the Windows 10 operating system on my desktop. When trying to restore from the Windows 7 backup application, I received the error 0x8100001a.

Initially, the backup drive was G, but after the reinstall, it was changed to H. I went into Disk Management and changed it back to drive G and ran the

    SDUTIL
    .

I did not receive any errors to this point.

When I attempt to restore my files again, I receive the 0x8100001a error.

    Any ideas?

Error 0x8100001a Windows 7 Backup Recovery Using Win 10

    Hi,

The error code 0x8100001a usually occurs when Mediaid.bin file is damaged or missing. The Mediaid.bin file may be damaged or missing if the backup directory was suddenly moved to another location. To address this concern we suggest running the
System File Checker tool. It is a utility that allows users to scan for corruptions
in Windows system and restore corrupted files. The link contains further information about how to run the System File Checker tool.

If the same issue persists, running the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool is recommended. This tool will automatically repair the components of your Windows operating system and records the corruptions to the log file.

To run the DISM tool, follow these steps:

    • Press Windows key+ X, and then click on Command Prompt (Admin). If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Yes.
    • In the Command Prompt window, type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, then hit Enter.
    • Once the scan is finished, restart your computer.

Note: While running the DISM tool on your computer, if any bad sectors are found on the system, data loss might occur. We suggest that you backup your files before running DISM.

    Update us with the results.
