Windows 10: restoring a backup after a factory reboot

My computer ran into an issue where I needed to reboot it to factory default to get it to start again. Before I rebooted it I backed it up on an external hard drive.


How do I install the backup to return my computer to the way it was?


when I search for solution I keep getting caught in a loop of articles about creating backups and restoring the computer to factory default settings but I need to know what to do next.


It's an HP envy x360, windows 10

Free hard drive backup/restore program?

I am looking for a free (freeware) program that will back up and restore a hard drive. I'm looking to clone a few external hard drives. If the program will backup the used space instead of the whole drive this will be awesome! Thanks for any suggestions.

Obviously you're looking for something besides your Xp Pro utility that does this?

 

6680 restore backup

my 6680 started to act funny

i decided to take a full backup with the nokia content copier, which resulted in a backup file on my pc

i restored the factory settings and rebooted the phone

now, when i choose to restore the backup, the transfer completes, the phone reboots (i get a warning that the phone is disconnected)

the content copier just stays active (i can only click cancel, i dont know if that is normal)

when i browse the phone, NOTHING is restored!

i tried rebooting the phone several times and installed the latest pc suite

the nokia site suggests to minimize the scope of the backup (eg. only choose contacts) but i cannot deselect the other options like text messages, calendar etc

could someone help? i've lost 100+ contacts now
