Resurgence of Intel Rapid Storage Tech removing SATA drive

I've had this problem before (twice, in fact) and the last time I updated the IRStorage Tech driver. Which solved the problem for a few weeks.

All of a sudden, the SATA drive is disconnected every time Windows 10 pro version 1903 goes to sleep. Today I also had a note that read, "Intel Rapid Storage Tech: SATA disk on controller 0, port2 Det.

Stange. Since I updated the driver, I've loaded Adobe Photoshop CC 2019, Bridge 2019, and Lightroom Classic. However, I used those programs for a week or two before this problem reappeared. There was a Win 10 update yesterday, but that didn't fix the problem.

Using a Dell XPS 8700 with i7 processor and 24gb of RAM. The OS is Win 10 version 1903, build 18362.418, 64 bit.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bruce B.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology disconnecting SATA drive

    Hi,

Recently I've had several instances of Intel rapid stor tech disconnecting my SATA drive. Happens at least once a day. While restarting fixes that problem I'd prefer a way to fix it more permanently. I found this on FAQs, but it's only for Win 7,8. Is
this the correct way to proceed on Win 10? I've noted other FAQs where a change is made to the BIOS.

Kindly indicate the proper procedure to fix this in Win 10, and thanks much for your time Resurgence of Intel Rapid Storage Tech removing SATA drive :).

Intel Rapid Storage Technology disconnecting SATA drive

    Thank you, Nikhar,

In answer to your questions, yes I get a notification when the SATA drive has been disconnected, but not an error message per se. And the computer is a Dell 8700, i7 processor and 24gb of RAM, with a 500gb SS C: drive, currently running Windows 10 version
    1903.

When I checked the Intel Rapid Storage Tech as you suggested, the operating mode was 'Automatic, delayed.' I changed same to Automatic and we'll see if that corrects the problem.

Thanks again and I'll reply later this week if I have another disconnection episode.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology disconnecting SATA drive

    Hi Bruce,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand that the SATA drive gets disconnected from your computer. To get clarity, it would be great if you can reply with details requested below:

    • Do you receive any error message when the SATA drive gets disconnected?
    • What is the make and model of the computer?

As you have mentioned that restarting the computer fixes the issue. It could be possible that the Intel Rapid Storage Technology service is not running properly. We can check if the service is running or not and try changing the Startup type of the
service. Refer the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows key
+ R, to open Run dialog box.
    2. Type services.msc and click on
      OK
      .
    3. Scroll down, look for Intel Rapid Storage Technology, right click on it and select
      Properties.
    4. Select Automatic from the drop down for
      Startup type.
    5. Click on Start to start the service and click on
      OK.

If changing the Startup type didn’t help, you can try installing the latest

    Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers
    .

You may also check the AHCI settings in BIOS.

Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that
any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.

    Regards,
