Windows 10: Right click to open a new word doc file

It is very usual to get a new text document and Microsoft word document by simply doing a right click.

But mine has changed from that to [rtf (rich text format) with a right click]. due to some reason

Would anybody please explain how to change it back to default [a word document] ?

I have a lot of ms word files on my pc. But one of them showed me an error - Getting unknown error messages while opening (.doc) or (.docx) files. I don't know how to open my word file or repair microsoft word. Any suggestions, guys, please.

 

Opening a Word doc in a Second Desktop from Explorer

To clarify, the problem is that whenever I try to open another word doc in file explorer in a second desktop it goes back to the desktop in which there already is a word doc open and opens the requested doc there, instead of in the second desktop.

I have tried the repair and it did not help. Any other suggestions?

Hi Steve,

Right click that file, choose 'Open With' - Choose Another App

Important - Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open xxx . . .'

If Word is not in the list, scroll to the bottom and click 'More Apps'

Again if Word is not in the list, at the bottom, click 'Look for another app on this PC', then navigate to find the application Application . . .
