Windows 10: running windows 10 and 8.1

    I have a windows 10 PC and would like to connect my old windows 8.1 HDD to it. I have put it in a caddy to connect via USB.. I can access files etc but it keeps telling me there is an error on the disk. how do I clear that error and how do I get it to run 8.1
