Windows 10: S Mode Malware

    hello!


    i use an hp pavilion 15 in windows 10 s mode. starting yesterday, i had this weird glitch where everytime i used google, it would redirect me to yahoo. i did some research and found out that i had the coolnewtabtheme virus. i reset my search engine and it still didn't fix it. i also checked my files to see if i downloaded it by mistake, and i also checked the apps&features settings to no avail. i have also tried scanning for malware on windows security and it says that there's nothing wrong. for now, i am stuck using bing, however i would like to revert to google. is there a way to fix this without leaving s mode?

    Hi:

    If that setting is already enabled, then I suggest as the next troubleshooting step might be Mozilla Safe Mode (not to be confused with Windows Safe Mode)):

    • Please report back and let us know the outcome, as it will dictate the next steps.
    • Also: please tell us what AV/AM/firewall programs are you running on this system?

    Did our Epson printer get hacked?

    Another question, is this on a home network or a work network? The steps @eidairaman1 listed are always a good first step. If this is on a work network you manage, I'd be much more concerned than the home one. It is possible someone is screwing with you, but malware could also be the culprit.
