    Safety Aspect ?

It's not meant to be demeaning. Some words have become negative, but when used in context are not. You have limited knowledge. That much is clear from your writing. I could have used the word "ignorance" as well, both just communicate a fact, not an insult.

All of us are ignorant about something, or lack knowledge about something. That's not insulting. I'm ignorant of most chemistry, that doesn't make me stupid.

That's not what you said. You said you fixed it "By clicking on "disable access to your router from internet" under the word Solution" and then, as per the rest of your comments, neglected to give any additional information that might have actually been useful in stating what you actually did. You said nothing about going to your router configuration page, or that you reconfigured it. The implication was that Avast fixed the problem.

You're not listening. The feature that displays that error was introduced by Avast in the 2015 version, which was released on October 30th (a little over a week ago). It did not exist in Avast previously. Therefore, it would have never given you that warning a month ago, because Avast was incapable of doing that scan at that time.

Here's a blog entry from Avast that describes it:

    https://blog.avast.com/2014/11/04/av...rity-scanning/

Here's an announcement of the release:

    Avast 2015 Final Version Released | getavast.net

Why do you seem so intent on blaming Windows 10 for this problem? Why can't you seem to understand the nature of the coincidence of the new scan being introduced at the same time?

I've repeatedly said, the problem here is that Avast is too vague in its messages, but point in fact.. you're also incredibly vague in describing what you've done, and what you changed.

  2. Getting back to the original question:

All answers come with a few questions.

A1: This comes from a new feature in Avast. Let me say this; I used Avast for a long time and there are usually some fairly ugly bugs in early releases of new versions. It settles down after about two weeks and works well ... but yes Avast can be buggy. The fact that Avast gave you access to your router bothers me more than the the new scan result.

If I knew what parameter you changed, I or another member might be able to offer some advice. If you're too security concerned to provide details, then I'm afraid members won't be able to provide much help.

    We know that you
have computers (how many?) that are running Win8 or 8.1
have one computer running Win10 bld 9860 (physical or virtual machine?)
the computers are networked (router, switch ??)
    have an ISP (which one??)
have Avast 2015 (on all machines??)
Reacted to the results of a new Avast scan (which machine reported it Win10, one of the others?)
    Clicked the "router" button
Changed some setting on the router (which setting?)
Ran the Avast scan again and got the all clear signal from Avast.
A2: No, although how the router and machines are configured with regards to the network does.

A3 Yes, it depends on configuring your network with high security and protections.

If you want help with network configuration, then post your network information on your thread. We're blind on this side.

On the Win10 machine, create a file showing how that machine is configured for IP.
Open a standard Command Prompt and type:

    ipconfig /all > ipAll.txt
    exit
Attach the ipAll.txt file form your User folder to a new post.
Please identify the router make and model and
please state what configuration parameter your changed

What in the end turned out to be a simple problem to solve has turned out to be a minefield according to some responses.
If only members who queried my problem took the time to read carefully my posts they would have realised the questions they were asking had already been answered.
Avast 2015 was released on Oct 22nd and yes I did check network security prior to my W10 install
As for my being ignorant I suppose over 30 years of daily use of M$ O/S's from DOS in the early 1980,s to the present W10 Preview does not count.

Mystere & dencal, you both could try the shields up test at grc.com wouldn't that show what port Microsoft listening on? Then try another firewall to block Microsoft port temporally. The issue could be both Microsoft & Avast, that my out of the box thinking.

I really don't know the story behind this or it is true or not. From my view point it looks like Microsoft & Grc just disagree.

The reason I used shields up it was recommend by a lot of protection companies and even some Internet service providers. Shields up is still there.

There is one way you can prove or disprove Shields up works. Microsoft claims there listening, test it out on GRC. If Microsoft uses a non standard port, then you can enter it in manually. Now, I would try it, but I removed windows 10.

What does Microsoft have to do with anything? Did you actually read the links? There's a ton of info out there, and used to be an entire site called grcsucks.com

  9. Now you know I'm stupid because I'm going to post now.

    To the core.
Microsofts very young test operating system (W-10) and the new Avast don't play well together at this time.
I would suggest using Defender during this test period.
Avast I'm sure is doing a lot of testing to make sure their product will be ready for the release of Windows 10.

I'm no genus so I will let Microsoft and Avast work the problems out.

Does Microsoft gather information from our W-10 computer; I'm thinking yes they do but I can't prove it.
Hopefully the information they gather is information needed to come up with a outstanding W-10. I can't prove that either.

    Now do I care; NO.
I volunteered to do this testing. It was not forced on me. I fully expect Microsoft to do some peaking at my system.
If one doesn't want Microsoft to peak into ones use of W-10 just remove W-10 and be happy.

I full expect some programs not to work with W-10 at this stage of the game.
Don't use those programs at this time. Try something else and be happy.

Being a stupid person I believe it will all come out in the wash we just have to wait for laundry day.

^^ Well put and I fully agree. W-10 is doing just what I need it to do at the moment and I'm happy with it!!

I'm using it as my primary OS right now(Build 9879) but if I want total security I can boot up Netrunner 14 from a live DVD and I'm all set.

Yes, I read the articles but I can find several sites that support him as well including wiki. Maybe not quite wiki, at least it wasn't biased and was more respectful. The wiki article was neutral. That they way I am, I am neutral on this.

As far as shields-up. I use it because it has been recommend by mvps, isp, firewall makers and antivirus companies. You have to use it correctly though. It won't work right if you are behind a proxy. If recall correctly, he doesn't make the software listed on his site. The software that is his is made by someone else on his behalf, other software he just links too or has permission to put on his site.
