  3. How to Enable AHCI for SSD in Windows 10.

    Original title: AHCI for SSD

I've installed a Samsung 850 Pro 512 gig SSD. The Samsung Magician is telling me " AHCI is disabled for one or more connected SSDs. System must boot in AHCI mode for best performance". How do I enable AHCI in Windows 10 Pro? Thanks in advance.

Click on the link for the RAID driver. Then select either the f6flpy-x64.zip or f6flpy-x86.zip file (64-bit or 32-bit). In device manager, manually upgrade the device driver for your SATA AHCI disk controller and point it to the folder holding the files extracted from the zip file downloaded. They also contain the Intel AHCI (non-raid) controller drivers.

You can install Intel RST drivers on a non-RAID system, sometimes.

It seems unlikely that they would be necessary. If you are running an Insider preview version of Windows 10, I wonder if it's a compatibility issue with the OS rather than the HD drivers.

The standard AHCI drive controller driver installed by Microsoft needs to be updated with the Intel specific AHCI controller driver.

Maybe so, but Win 10 15058 doesn't seem to like 15.2.0.1020 (the latest at the Intel download site). The same seemed to be true with the earlier 15XXX previews. Tried the installer package; incompatible. Tried the manual install that you recommend, and got a "best drivers already installed" message.

Does the fact that I have the Intel NVME Miniport drivers installed affect your advice?

My WIN 10 Insider 15058 accepted the 15.2.0.1020 Driver after several attempts. Much, much faster now !!

Not to the OP Samsung SSD 850 PRO 512 GB DRIVERS ?? :)

I think my SanDisk SSD performs much faster on the Intel AHCI drivers as well. Hmmm..... looks like I need to upgrade to 15.2.0.1020, my driver is at 14.10.0.1016!

Did you do anything special to get the driver to install?

I don't expect trying the same thing repeatedly to work, but I can't swear that it never does.

So this is unusual. This is my disk controller:

Samsung SSD 850 PRO 512 GB DRIVERS ?? [IMG]

Thinking my driver was out of date, I downloaded the 15.2.0.1020 file from Intel. I tried to update driver and just pointed it to the folder I had extracted the files to. I got a message back the best driver for my device was already installed. OK, selected the method to pick the driver from a list and pointed that to the .inf file in the extracted folder. Selected the driver for my SATA controller, restarted computer. And...to my surprise the driver version went DOWN to 14.8.0.1042!

So, then I selected the disk controller again in device manager and this time picked the upgrade automatically option. It pulled a driver from online, restarted, and now back at 14.10.0.1016. So I guess there is no 15.2.0.1020 driver for my SATA controller.

Ah... I just saw this on Intel's webpage:
For Intel Platforms not supported above, visit the RAID version 14.8.0

I just tried testing my Samsung SSDs using the Magician's built-in test, and got wildly fluctuating results on sequential tests for a completely idle machine: from 90000 Random Read IOPS to 135000 Random Read IOPS (same kind of fluctuatiuon in other numbers as well).

Comparisons between Windows Standart AHCI Driver and Intel-specific AHCI Driver show no improvement at all on either SATA 850 EVO or 850 EVO M.2, i.e. both fluctuate back and forth with no changes on average.

I'd guess your "Much, much faster now" is just another of those fluctuatuions.

Samsung SSD 850 PRO 512 GB DRIVERS ??

My WIN 10 Insider 15060 will NOT accept 15.2.0.1020 Driver if I use Intel 8 Controller. I have to use Intel 200 Series Chipset Controller and only then am I able to use 15.2.0.1020 Driver.

You are correct AndreyT, test results bouncing all over the place.

Searched for days for the 15.2.0.1020 driver for our Intel 8 series SATA AHCI Controller. This driver (for 8 series) not even on Intel Download ????
