    Sandboxie and Fall Creators Update

Beta 5.23.1 was released a couple days ago. It fixed the Firefox template for Bookmarks, broken for saving favicons out of the sandbox after Firefox recent changes in the way it saves favicons.

    Changes in 5.23.1
    1) Added support for Firefox Favicons (Right-click on your Sandbox --> Sandbox Settings--> Applications ---> Web Browser ---> Firefox --> Allow direct access to Firefox bookmark and history database).
    2) Addressed an issue in which Chrome v64 dev/Canary were crashing when Sandboxed [viewtopic.php?p=130933#p130933]

I'm still waiting for Sandboxie to be able to work with microsofts EDGE browser......Right now the only 2 browsers I'm using are FF57 & EDGE.

I like FF57 best right now and am just trying out EDGE but I don't want to keep trying it without being able to sandbox it.

    This seems to be working:

    Turn off Norton Exploit Prevention-setting.

Norton>Settings >Firewall >Intrusion and Browser Protection>Exploit Prevention set to off.

Sandboxing Firefox 57 works very well. Thats my browser. Never a problem that cant be solved. But sandboxing Edge with Sandboxie can not be done. Edge is an Univrsal app isolated by App container. Sandboxie is not compatible with Universal apps. So, dont even try it. Perhaps in the future, but not now.

    Sandboxie - All Versions

Note: If you are using W10, for better compatibility between Sandboxie and tomorrows Windows updates, do the update to 5.24 before updating Windows. During the weekend I had a PM conversation with the Sandboxie Lead developer who told me that "MS has been holding back (blocking) those Win 10 KB's that break Sandboxie on machines that have Sandboxie installed. They are going to remove those blocks on Tuesday's updates. So people using Win 10 that don't upgrade to 5.24 will BSOD when they install the MS updates."

Personally, I haven't had any issue in my W10 ever, no BSOD or noticed my W10 not being offered updates when they are expected. I am keeping track of all W10 updates and there's only one that I know of that I did not get as soon as it became available, it was one of the Servicing Stack released since July when I got the computer, but eventually got it automatically. Other than that, only January's update I had to download the package to install it, but that was because at the time, I did not have the now required Registry key. I dont use AV but enable Windows defender for a few hours after Windows updates to maintain it properly, on January 17th, I enabled WD and now I have the key.

But anyway, if you are using Sandboxie in W10, it behooves you to update the program to stable version 5.24, released today.

    Sandboxie and Fall Creators Update

Hi Tony, same installer. There is a free version, and a paid version that has features that becomes unlocked when you register your version of Sandboxie.

I recommend to test SBIE free, after a few months, you ll know if you want more out of Sandboxie. If you do, you get the license. Nine years ago because there was a free version available, I tested Sandboxie. After 6 months, I knew Sandboxie was for real and had found what I needed to maintain my computer intact and went for the license.

Hey bo elam just wanted to tell you thanks again for your thread about SBIE late last year because after trying it again I have kept up with the beta versions and can say I really love using SBIE for my browsers again.

And speaking of browsers I found a little browser that I myself have never heard of before and I absolutely love it and it works fantastic with SBIE and is taking over my top browser spot from Firefox which for me is saying a lot because I really like Firefox.

It is "EPIC PRIVACY BROWSER" this is a lite on resources, good looking interface with a built in Ad blocker browser that works really well.......Check it out and tell me what you think if you haven't already!

Yes, Sandboxie doesnt work well along Norton. Historically, this two programs have always had trouble working without conflict. There is always something in Norton that messes up Sandboxie. You can get both programs working together with workarounds but what works today, wont work tomorrow as something new usually breaks every so often.

Sandboxie gets along 100% with Windows defender. No issue whatsoever. You could uninstall Norton for now and give Sandboxie a try. WD and SBIE work perfectly together. No need for workarounds or anything.

You are welcome, munk. In my opinion, its always better to use the latest beta. Specially when you run Chromium type browsers (like you) as it includes updates developed to keep up with Chromes updates.
I dont use Chromium browsers but I read good things about Epic. I ll install it it in a sandbox and check it out .*Smile

    Sandboxie and Fall Creators Update

@munk1955, I just noticed there is no template in Sandbox settings for saving bookmarks out of the sandbox for Epic. Personally, I set all my sandboxes as restricted as possible but without losing usability or convenience. I try to achieve a balance between usability and security. So, for browsers, I allow bookmarks to be saved.

If you want to save bookmarks for Epic out of a sandboxed session, follow this instructions:

In Windows 10, Epic saves bookmarks in:
    %LocalAppdata%\Epic Privacy Browser\User Data\Default\Bookmarks

Open Sandbox settings for your Epic sandbox, go to Resource access>File access>Direct access, Click Edit/Add, and copy/paste the path written above.
