Hmmm. I based my opinion on my experience with my PC. The Samsung was slower then the SKHynix. Your post activated my mind. In my HP the Samsung SSD is mounted in a "converter" to mount it in a 3.5" bay. So the cabling is connected to the converter which connects the cabling through to the SSD. Would the converter mess things up?
So, I switched the drives. The SKHynix is in the "converter" and the Samsung is connected directly to the connector. The drives remain connected to the same sata ports as before.
The speed of the Samsung almost doubles!!! The SkHynix doesn't get worse. And the Samsung is faster indeed, notably in the sequential reads. See the picture below.

Back to the topic.... Would it be possible that the cabling to the Samsung made it (1.) slow and (2.) drop the line speed from SATA III to SATA II?
I don't know for sure yet, but at the moment the Samsung is connected with SATA III for more than 30 minutes... This gives hope.

It could be that the connection with the Samsung was a bit dodgy, as the SKHynix is now working using the same connection.

Am pleased to see you are now reaping the benefit from the superior 850 Pro SSD.

Yes, there must have been a bad connection. I am still running at SATA III, without any fall-back until now. So I guess my problem is solved.
I hope the threat starter was lucky too.
