  1. SATA m.2 SSD behaving very weirdly.

    So, i have msi gl63 8rc. It had a 1 TB HDD as a default with an empty m.2 slot. Couple days back i bought Crucial MX500 m.2 SATA SSD(500gb) to install it in my laptop. Up until this point the ssd was detected in BIOS and i was able to change the boot sequence.
    So i tried cloning it with different softwares each of them resulted in the error 0xc0000225. I tried the cmd methods to fix it but that didn't work. So finally i did a full reset of the windows installed on my hdd(along with data reset) and after that made a bootable usb with which i installed the windows to my SSD drive after initialising it there and fully resetting the hdd so that windows doesn't boot windows from there. So now the windows has successfully booted on SSD but I'm facing this super weird problem that windows is fully detecting the ssd hdd but in BIOS i can only see the hdd. Windows works perfectly but when i try to boot after a shutdown, first it gives a somewhat similar error i got before, that the drive is not detected or connected. And i can only boot windows if first i go to bios then just close it without changing anything, it automatically boots fine. But i have to do this everytime i start my laptop. I just want to install the windows onto my SSD and use the hdd as storage. I tried everything since last two days. Please any help is appreciated. I told everything i remember, if you want to know anything else to understand the issue better please ask. Thanks.

  2. M.2 SSD Partitioning

    My OS is installed on an 128GB SATA SSD,

    All other applications, when ever possible I used to install on another 60 SATA SSD.

    I am very happy with the performance. It is pretty fast, better than if it were on the same disk. I have tested the difference.

    Now I have a new ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming Motherboard with Two M.2 slots.

    I am going to buy a 512 GB M.2 SSD.

    As I have under stood the SSD consists of 4 Nos of NAND Chis.

    Therefore on each NAND chip, I presume will have capacity of 64 GBs.

    My question is are they really independent ?

    Can they behave as independent Hard disks?

    If yes,

    Can I partition my new M.2 SSD into an 198GB and 64GB partitions -that means 3 NAND chips and one NAND Chip?

    and enjoy the same or better speed than before that I had with the SATA SSD?

    DELL XPS 8930 Upgrade SSD M.2 and Add SATA SSD

    Hi - I wonder if anyone can help please. I have a Dell XPS 8930. It’s about 18 months old. I’m very happy with the PC, especially now the fan noise is under better control. My Dell came with a Toshiba SSD NVMe M.2 256 GB and a HDD. Win 10 Pro (v1909) sits on the Toshiba M.2 SSD and my data files are on the HDD. The M.2 SSD is getting a little low on free space so I’ve bought a higher capacity (500 GB) Samsung M.2 SSD. Having suffered disc failure in the past I also have a Samsung SATA SSD which will fit in one of the spare drive bays. I will clone (not mirror) the M2. SSD to the SATA SSD weekly for extra protection.

    My intention is to:

    1) Fit the SATA SSD in one of the spare drive bays; 2) Restore an image of the existing Toshiba M.2 SSD to the new SATA SSD;
    3) Remove the Toshiba M.2 SSD;
    4) Reboot from the new SATA SSD (Q – does this require any change to settings?); 5) Fit the Samsung M.2 SSD and clone from SATA SSD.
    6) Reboot, enter BIOS and change boot order to Samsung M.2 SSD. This all seems a bit too straightforward and I’m sure there are other things I need to do to make sure everything works o.k. and in particular the PC boots correctly at stages 4 and 6. For example, the SATA option in my BIOS is set to RAID, and I did read that I might have to change that to AHCI but at what stage.

    I use Macrium Reflect Home Edition for image files and cloning, and have created a rescue disc.
    Any thoughts\suggestions gratefully received. Thank you.

    2 RAID Arrays on Z390 chipset (M.2x4 and SATA)

    This is possible. I have successfully built a Z390 based machine with both an M.2 RAID 1 array (boot) and SATA RAID 0 array (D disk), all running off of the Z390 chipset Intel controller. Creating the RAID arrays is standard, and not significantly different than with just SATA disks. The primary difference being that the M.2 disks must have "RST PCIe Storage Remapping" Enabled.

    This system is configured as such:

    • i9 9900k
    • ASRock Z390 Taichi Ultimate
    • 2x 1TB Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSDs (RAID 1 + Boot)
    • 2x 1TB WD Blue SSDs (RAID 0)
