Windows 10: SATA port are not working??

Discus and support SATA port are not working?? in Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware to solve the problem; Glad you got it fixed. Sounds like the CMOS got "confused" and the reset allowed it to detect what was actually present. Good job! --Ed-- Discussion in 'Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware' started by EdTittel, Apr 5, 2018.

Hi all today I got my new SSHD I went to install it but is not recognised in any of the SATA port. According to the manual when the M2 port is used the SATA port 1 is disabled in this case I should have 5 ports free but none of them is working, I have defaulted the setting in the bios but the remain inactive. Am I missing something here or doing something wrong?
    ASUS Z170 pro gaming
    M2 SATA SSD 850 EVO
    Any help will appreciated

    :)

  3. Storagespace, want to change SATA Controller for Devices

    Hi all,

i've running a parity storage pool of 3 x 4TB Sata HDD's on two different 2 Port SATA Controller.

    1. Could i switch thoose drives without loose of data to an other 4 Port SATA Controller?

    For example:

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 1 Port 1

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 2 Port 0

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 2 Port 1

    Swtiched to...

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 3 Port 0

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 3 Port 1

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 3 Port 2

    2. What happens when i switch the assignment between the Controllers and the HDDs?

    For example:

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 1 Port 1

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 2 Port 0

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 2 Port 1

    Switched to...

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 2 Port 1

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 1 Port 1

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 2 Port 0

Please help me to figure out what happens in the two szenario's. I won't test this on my livesystem and there is no testsystem given.

    Many thanks

    SATA port are not working??

Have 4 x 3.o Gb ports and 2 x 6 Gb ports. How do they differ?

In literal terms it does not matter. SATA III ports will accept SATA II devices and SATA III devices will work at SATA II speeds.

As has been said if you have suitable devices match them to the required port to get the best performance. The only consideration is how these ports are provided. On some motherboards the SATA III are on a dedicated chipset (JMicron, Marvell) and some features
require a driver to be loaded. With only two SATA II devices I found it simpler to disable the second SATA interface in the BIOS and leave the drivers off.

See p. 2-33 in the downloadable manual.

If the M.2 port is set to SATA mode, the SATA Express ports can only be used with PCI-E devices. That would be SATA ports 1 and 2.

I see no reason why the other 4 SATA ports would be affected.

I'm a little confused by your post. I presume that "my new SSD" can't be the 850 EVO. That would only fit the M.2 socket. If you mistakenly called it an M.2 SSD, and it's really a 2.5" SATA drive, set the M.2 socket to PCI-E, and you should be able to use all 6 SATA ports.
