    Hello 10win10, *Smile

    This tutorial will only remove the context menu that was added using this tutorial.

    It will not remove the new one that was added by Microsoft that opens to Windows Defender.

    I'll create a new tutorial soon for it since it's not the same as what this tutorial adds.

    Ok. I've updated this tutorial to have a separate OPTION ONE and OPTION TWO. *Party

    Option 1 = New context menu included in Windows 10 that scans in Windows Defender.

    Option 2 = Custom context menu that scans in a command prompt.

  8. Scan with Windows Defender Context Menu - Add in Windows 10

    Downloading the build 10586 as I type. I have removed the Command Prompt scan that I previously added. Thanks for the heads up remco8246 and Brink. I hope Microsoft has included the fix for the broken: right click the Task Bar, choose "Show Windows Side By Side". All they do at the moment is stack!

    Brink... Is it possible to add the "Windows Defender" icon to the menus?

    I have found several ready made *.reg files that have the icon included (see text below) but they just duplicate the now built-in option. The text below is for a File context menu but it includes the "Icon" link... Not a game changer but without the icon option gets a little lost in the menu... BTW great work. Thanks

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\scanwithwindowsdefender]
    "MUIVerb"="Scan with Windows Defender"
    "Icon"="%ProgramFiles%\\Windows Defender\\MSASCui.exe,0"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\scanwithwindowsdefender\Command]
    @=""C:\\Program Files\\Windows Defender\\MpCmdRun.exe" -scan -scantype 3 -file "%1""

    Hello studioCJF, and welcome to Ten Forums. *Smile

    I'm afraid that I haven't seen a way to add an icon to the default "Scan with Windows Defender..." context menu yet.

    Like I said not a game changer but would be nice...

    I looked at the 5 different registry entries that you list and only one of them (see below) is remotely similar in structure to the one I posted earlier. But, since I only know enough to be dangerous I'll leave it to the professionals to figure out *Wink

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{09A47860-11B0-4DA5-AFA5-26D86198A780}\InprocServer32]
    @="C:\\Program Files\\Windows Defender\\shellext.dll"
    "ThreadingModel"="Apartment"

    Thanks again

    Hello Tony, *Smile

    No worries. The .reg file you used removed the default context menu included with Windows 10.

    If you wanted it back, you can just use the add .reg in OPTION ONE to restore it.
