    SCANNER

Hi. I have a brother printer/scanner. It has been working fine on Windows 10 since I bought it however suddenly today, after wanting to scan something, it told me that the scanner couldn't be found. I can print, I can see the ink remaining - can't scan. I spent over 2 hours on the phone to Brother and remote support and Windows is just not letting me install the scanner driver. In device manager under Imaging devices it shows the printer make and model with a ! on it. The error is apparently a common one "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternative driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)" however, I cannot find any information on how to enable it. I need my scanner. The brother tech said it was a windows problem to do with perhaps Windows Image Acquisition but it's all running ok. If I add a windows usb scanner, I still get the same error message. Can anyone help with this. Thank you in advance.

    :)

    • On the Start menu, type Troubleshooting and hit enter.
    • Choose Hardware and Sound.

    Scanner

    Hi JSmith,

Your scanner should be installed first in order for your computer to recognize it. Since you're using a printer/scanner in one, you need to add or install the device as a printer and as a scanner. Make sure that the printer is properly connected to your
computer and is turned on when you try to install it. Follow these steps:

    • Click Start > Settings > Devices.
    • Under Add printers & scanners, click the + sign and select
      Add device.

Once added, try checking if you're able to scan. If your computer still doesn't detect the scanner, then we suggest that you get in touch with HP Support for further assistance.

Feel free to let us know if you need more information.

    Regards.
