Windows 10: Scanning a document

G'day,
Could somebody tell me how to turn a scanned document into a word document. I want to altar some of the words & add other sentences.
Or please direct me to a sight that will tell me how to do it with Window 10.

I did look at the Epson manual online but, there were no instructions for Windows 10. I must admit, I hate Windows 10. I have so many problems with it which I never incurred with Vista's or Windows 8.

What is the file format of the scanned document: PDF, jpg, PNG, RTF, etc.?
What version of MS Word do you have?

Thank you for your quick reply. I have not scanned it as yet. It will be a PDF. I have Microsoft Office 7.

There's no such thing as MS Office 7.
Do you mean Office 2010, Office 2013, Office 2016, Office 365?
But the version of MS Word may not matter all that much...

In any event, you will need some sort of software to be able convert the PDF into an editable Word document.
There are likely many such programs available, both free and paid.

I personally use Adobe Acrobat -- that is a popular, paid, licensed software.

What you need is some OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software because when you scan even text it's just a picture of it and is not editable. OCR converts picture to text that you can edit afterwards in Word or any other text program.
There are also some online services: Free Online OCR - convert scanned PDF and images to Word, JPEG to Word

 

If it's Office 2007, you may already have "Microsoft Office Document Imaging" built in.
Look in the Start Menu for Microsoft Office and with any luck it will be listed.

I tried a PDF and it converts it into a graphical .tif file which it can then convert to Word text - it seems to do a reasonable job (OCR is rarely exactly correct).
It can also be added to Office 2010 - not sure about later versions:

Alternatively, the desktop version of OneNote 2016 is free and also has OCR capabilities.

While there is a version of OneNote built into Windows 10 already, I prefer the Windows Desktop version, which is free.

MS Office goes by internal numbers to0 but you do have 2007.

 

So I would be looking to see if Microsoft Office Document Imaging is already built in?
(In case you didn't see my earlier post, because we both posted at the same time.)

 

Office 2013 that I'm using can convert .pdf to word but it's not very good conversion. I use Abbyy fine reader but it's not free program. It preserves pictures and backgrounds too.
It also has downloadable dictionaries for many languages for better accuracy.
