Windows 10: scanning and repairing drive stuck

soo today i turned onn my laptop and some programs didnt work. So i decided to do a dick check and repair. it god stuck at 6% for about half an hour i rebooted several times but it kept stoping at 6%. Now i left it scanning for almost 2 hours and it's still at 6%

If issue persists try to create new user profile as an administrator and see if issue persists in new user profile. For creating new user profile you may refer to the steps provided below.

• 
  Press Windows key + R
  
• 
  Type control userpasswords2 and click OK
  
• 
  Click on add under users tab
  
• 
  Click the option, "Sign-in without a Microsoft account
  
• 
  Click on Local account
  
• 
  Choose a name for the account
  
• 
  Add password if you want to
  
• 
  Apply and click OK.

Did chkdsk ever complete?

 

Hi. Somewhat similar problem, so I didn't want to start a new thread..In an effort to diagnose a sluggish freezing computer (windows 10) I mistakenly ran checkdsk c: f/ r/ x . It has been running for almost 3.5 full days now. Was at 0% for a while, bumped to 5%, then 11% for about 1.5 days and now at 12% for over 24 hours. And I have been reading that I need to let it keep running in order to avoid further damage. But it is a large drive, and at this rate it could take weeks to complete. I need some thoughts about whether I should keep waiting... or any other suggestions. Thank you. Joni

When you run Check Disk (error checking) with the /R switch, it checks for Bad Sectors. If you don't have any Check Disk should only take a few hours. But it you have too many, then it could go on overnight or longer. The longer the scan the more bad sectors you have. If it has only been going for a few hours, I would let it run, and check it periodically and plan on getting a new HDD. If it has been going on for days, then just replace the HDD.
