One day after the latest update, computer is running fine, I then ran the built-in disk cleanup including system cleanup and here's what I got.

Windows Update Cleanup 3.99 TB – holy cow.

My total drive is using about 40 GB, I wonder where this 3.99TB is located. Scary Windows 10 disk cleanup. Should I run it. :)

    Temp_SafeToDeleteRefreshFile_Attempt0__File0 - What is it

The file was on the C: this file was created by windows 10 restore. It was left behind as a scary surprise after the restore. It can't be open, or moved. As for disk cleanup it didn't even consider removing it.

Now back to my original question:

    "Temp_SafeToDeleteRefreshFile_Attempt0__File0"
What is it and how come no one on this site knows anything about this file or why it's there.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

I can understand that it must be difficult for you when things are not working as it should. Sorry to know that you are facing this issue.

You may run the disk clean up tool and restart the computer to check if this helps.

Scary Windows 10 disk cleanup. Should I run it.

It seems to be a quirk with latest 321 build. On an older AMD Phenom it just rebooted spontaneusly when running it.

Scared me too the first time I saw this back in August. That's when I found the explanation (which Cliff S quotes in the above linked post). It's safe to let Disk Clean-up run, but @Cliff S's method is a neater and faster solution.

@EdTittel has also picked up on my post and explained in far more detail than I could how this can happen.

Really helpful responses. Thanks guys. My cleanup took about 15 minutes of sheer agony. But after restart all is well.

This forum is awesome, learn something new every day.

If you checked the box that reads "System Update Cleanup" when using Disk Cleanup/Cleanup System files, you already instructed the utility to remove those files from your system. If you didn't perhaps I misunderstood your posting. AFAIK, Disk Cleanup is the most likely way to remove such files from your system. I just learned yesterday that dism /online /cleanup-image /analyzecomponentstorecan also handle this task as well, but I'm guessing that may not have been the cleanup technique you used here.
