  1. Screen Resolution Stuck After Turning Monitor Off

I built a PC for gaming recently and encountered some strange behavior. Namely, if I turn the (1440p, DP) monitor off with the computer on, the resolution switches to 1024x768 (with the option of 800x600) and will not switch back until I reboot. Has anyone seen this?

Screen resolution changes when monitor is turned off

Hi guys. First off lemme start by praising the people who run and post on this board, it's an endless mine of informations and a never ending academy for learning all the tips and tricks of anything pc-related...so keep up the good work guys!

Unfortunately I'm writing here because recently i've ran into a weird problem that started occurring just after i switched to a new gpu. Basically windows would change screen resolution whenever the monitor is turned off and the pc is left on doing tasks or just sitting idling. Upon turning on the monitor I would find the screen resolution changed to 1920x1080 instead of the usual and native 1440. I'm running W10 CU updated to the latest official build and the monitor is connected via DP, as always was even with the old GPU which never once presented this "occurrence". What could be the cause of this? Both GPU are Nvidia GTX and are always updated to the latest WHQL drivers. Some people say that it's a DP bug and the solution would be to switch to a DVI cable...but if that's the case why didn't it present the same behavior with the old card (which as i said was connected via DP cable as well) ? What I've gathered so far from the other boards and people's opinions is that whenever the connection between the monitor and the graphics card is interrupted (such as when the monitor is off), the latter is unable to correctly identify the monitor's native resolution and therefore switches to a "safe" resolution or something like that. I have to turn the monitor off and on again to have windows restore the correct and native resolution, a procedure which as you may imagine is a big of a nuisance other than unpractical. Is that the case? Could it be some kind of power-saving feature or something?
Thanks to any answer and advice thrown this way. Screen Resolution Stuck After Turning Monitor Off :)

  3. Second monitor screen resolution problem

    Hi,

For us to properly isolate the issue with your second monitor screen resolution, we would like to know the following:

    • Were there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue (e.g., updates, software installation)?

    • When did the issue first begin?

    • To make sure that we have not missed on anything, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

In the meantime, we suggest that you try resetting your monitor settings, and check if the issue still persists. You may refer to your monitor on how to reset it.

We look forward to your response.

"monitor off" detection moving windows to turned off monitors

I have been pulling my hair out for months with my Triple 4K setup because every time the computer goes to sleep, the monitors get screwed up. I finally found a program that allows you to manually override EDID info for your displays and force your desired
resolution so the screens will always be setup correctly when you turn on the computer. The program is also free.

    Check out Custom Resolution Utility

    Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)

    Once you run it:

    • Disable all of the default "Established Resolutions"
    • Delete all of the default "Detailed Resolutions"
    • Delete all of the default "Standard Resolutions"
    • Add a new "Detailed Resolution"
    • Under new "Detailed Resolution" I left all of the settings the same except for the active horizontal and vertical pixel dimensions, which is obviously where you set your desired screen resolution.
    • Then repeat steps 1-5 for each monitor.
    • Once all monitors are configured properly, close CRU and run the restart.exe or restart64.exe included with CRU and you should be good to go!

I hope this helps other folks who are having similar issues to me with Windows 10 monitor auto detection and displayport connections.
