    Screen resolution

In the last couple of days, my laptop(Win 10) screen resolution changes depending on hardware connected to the computer. Two days ago, when this started, I turned on the laptop in the morning, and the screen resolution was 640x480. The setting was greyed out and could not be changed. The night before, we'd had Netflix playing through the receiver and flat screen that is connected to the laptop via HDMI. Tonight, I turned on the laptop to watch YouTube. With the receiver and the TV on, the screen went back to normal. Screen resolution is normal (1280x720), and the setting is open to be changed. Today when I turned off the TV and receiver, the display went back to the narrow screen. (Two inches of black on either side; all text and icons bigger than usual.)

I turned the amp and the TV back on, and now it's normal again. I've had the same receiver and flat screen connected the same way for years with no prior issues. What is happening? How can I fix it?

    Thanks

    :)
