Windows 10: Screen Saver slide show works and then quits

I have a few personal photos set up to show as a screen saver. When I preview the settings all is fine. When screen saver starts, it runs through the photos and then the screen goes black with a message about an error stopped screen saver from running. It doesn't tell me what error or any other information. The setup is the same as I have on another PC only with fewer pictures.

My problem is that screen saver settings and lock screeen slide show conflicts eatch other so SCRNSAVE.EXE line in regedit shown in the third photo is removed disabling screen saver when I set a new lock

Screen Saver Randomly Turning OFF

Hi,

had the Screen Saver turned on (Mystify - 15 minutes) and worked fine. Until I went to Personalize, Lock Screen Settings and tried to change the Picture to Slide Show (selecting one of my picture albums). This turned OFF! the Screen Saver (without me doing
anything). I had to go back to the Screen Saver settings to turn it on again.

Two questions please:

Changing the Personalize/Lock Screen Setting from Picture to Slide Show does not seem to do anything. I do not see any Slide Show when the initial screen comes up when rebooting? What is to be expected to happen?

Changing the Personalize/Lock Screen Setting from Picture to Slide Show shuts down the Screen Saver? Is that intended and if yes why?

Well, the PC with the issue has the fewest slides but I just loaded the other set (more pics) and issue is the same. *Sad

 

In the PC that has the issue, create another user account exactly the same privileges as this one. Logon to it and see if the same issue persists.

I have the same issue, and I may have solved it, although I'm not certain. I downloaded a picture viewer called IrfanView and I accidentally discovered that it can tell you when an image has an incorrect file extension. I set up IrfanView to do a slideshow of all of my pictures, and it found and corrected at least one or two incorrect extensions. Since then I haven't had any screensaver issues.

The website is IrfanView - Official Homepage - One of the Most Popular Viewers Worldwide. You have to be careful though. The download links on the right side of the homepage go through downloads.cnet.com, where ESET always gives me malware warnings, and when I try to download IrfanView, ESET blocks it. If you click "IrfanView 64-bit" on the left side of the homepage there will be two links at the bottom of the page. The ZIP file link is actually safe. I just tested it while typing this, and scanned the files I downloaded through that link, and they were clean. Of course you should still do your own scan, before actually using the program.

Anyway, I hope it helps. Even if it doesn't, at least you'll have a third picture viewer in addition to the Photos app and Windows Photo Viewer.
