Screen turns off shortly after turn on.

I have installed the Fall Creator's update that some how upset my printer settings but that is sorted. However I now find that when I turn on the computer the sign in screen appears but unless I log in within a few minutes the screen turns off. This is since the update so why? My computer is set to close the screen after 2 hours of inactivity. Any thoughts please?

    :)

Syncing problems with Windows Phone 7 and Hotmail

Do you turn off the cellular data connection when you're on WiFi? If so, know that WiFi turns off shortly after the screen turns off, unless the phone is connected to a power source. So the phone would have no data connection until you were to turn the
    screen back on.

If push isn't working, try another sync interval like 15 minutes.

  3. auto log off windows 10

The problem I am having is that Windows 10 is auto logging off after I turn the monitor off.

    NOT LOCK, But LOG OFF!

I start apps running for the night, turn the monitor off, and shortly afterwords, I hear the log off sound from the speakers. Everything that was being worked on, gone.

And don't be ridiculous enough to mention screen-savers or power settings... Those are for lock screen, NOT LOGGING ME OFF!! Even then, I have everything set to be always on.

    Anyone have a REAL fix?

    Thanks.

    Hello Judesman, *Smile

If you are waking up your PC from sleep or hibernate, then this may be the System unattended sleep timeout power setting responsible since there was no activity. You can test this theory by setting a higher number of minutes to see if that may help.

Thank you Brink, I am not much of a techie. This happens now when the computer has been turned off (manually) and I turn it on again, which I always do overnight, boot up is it called? It is not a one off because I have turned off and on the computer a number of times to see what happens. This did not happen before the update yesterday.

Brink, "System unattended sleep timeout" does not appear to be available in Windows 10.

Judging from my various systems this now seems to be normal behaviour for Windows - it is different from before the update but is it actually causing you a problem??

Thank you rqt. No it isn't causing any problems but when some function on the computer changes it would be good to know why it has happened. Are there some release notes somewhere that tell us about the changes? I have the Edge notes but not any other update notes. That would be helpful.

I've had a quick look but I don't think you're going to find any simple succinct release notes (I suspect that there are just too many changes for this to be practical). No doubt someone will be along shortly to prove me wrong.................

One change about the initial log in screen that I do like is that Windows now goes ahead & loads up my start up programs before I have logged in - so if I do not sign in immediately everything is ready to go when I do actually get around to it.

Yes it is a new 'feature' Just wiggle your mouse or trackpad and the startup splashscreen will reappear. Don't get phased if periodically the startup screen picture changes either (mine does) but having entered your login details the screen and picture you get there should be as normal.

Thanks both, much appreciated. One question, how do you know that your start up programmes have loaded before you have signed in?

"how do you know that your start up programmes have loaded before you have signed in?"

Because if I delay signing in they are already running & ready to go - because if I sign in immediately I have to wait for them to load as has always been the case previously - because if I wait I can hear the Skype start up sound while still at the log on screen

To all who asked, here is a general overview (non-technical) of the Fall Creators Update and new features. Broad and marketing oriented, but some useful info.

As far as the startup programs being loaded...

All system progs and apps that are not user dependent (not associated with your profile only) begin to load up immediately, whether you sign on or not. If you delay signing on, say for 2-3 minutes or so, all of the apps/progs/job scheduled entries, background tasks, etc. will be running....then all your user specific profile entries take off and run, including any job scheduled entries that are tied to "run at user logon". That's the simplified version, lots of stuff going on deep down inside.
