  1. Scrolling Tip (and free Firefox plugin)

As a Windows Noob (been using 10 for months) there is one Mac feature I absolutely can't stand not having. Scroll bars in Windows do not offer a 'turbo' feature I like.

Suppose you're at the bottom of a page and you want to return to the top? In Windows you must move your pointer to the top of the scroll bar and lean. Or two finger scroll a few times to get back up there. In OS X -- if set up properly -- you simply 'click' once in the scroll bar where you want to go and BOOM you're there. One click.

Firefox offers a plugin that will allow you to do this at least in a browser. It's called SCROLL TO TOP.

Give it a try. It rules.

    :)

  2. Downloading flash for the firefox browser

It isn't officially supported.. and you certainly can't download it from adobe.. From the release notes for mobile firefox:

Does Firefox on my phone support plugins? Support for plugins in Firefox for Maemo has been disabled. On most Web pages that use the Adobe Flash plugin, the performance of the plugin didn't meet our standards, and the interactivity and performance of the
entire Web page was negatively impacted. This was especially felt on pages with multiple instances of the plugin. Advanced users can enable plugins for experimentation and testing purposes only. We plan to provide a browser add-on that will enable you to selectively
enable plugins on certain sites, because some sites, like YouTube, work well.

You can try these instructions, but don't expect it to be great:

Win 10, java plugin on firefox doesn't work

I found this on firefox support, so I have to install 32-bit version of firefox

The Windows 64-bit version of Firefox only has the Flash and Silverlight Plugins whitelisted. If you need Java
(or any other Plugins) you'll need to use the Windows 32-bit version of Firefox.

Hold Shift (I believe it is) then click on the scroll bar. I'm currently mobile not at my computer, but I do know that feature is in Windows. You can also use the Home key.

  6. I had previously known about the HOME key two handed move, but not the SHIFT key two handed move. My problem is that both require two hands to pull off. When I surf I like to have one hand on the trackpad. So neither actually offer the same feature.

The Firefox plug in approximates the Mac scrolling feature -- but even it lacks. Since it's not system wide and only brings from top to bottom... or the reverse.

I wish there was a way I could capture PC users interest with this feature. I fear there's a Mac bias preventing people from 'getting' how necessary it really is. I was at a Microsoft stand in my mall asking about this very feature -- and the MS person said it wasn't necessary because you could just scroll on the touchscreen. It took three swipes to get to the top of the page with two fingers. My way it's ONE click on the mouse pad.

I know it's hard to miss something you believe you've never needed because you've never uses it -- but this one silly feature is a biggie if you surf more then ten minutes a day. Trust me. Windows should offer this as a preference somewhere which could be turned on as to not shock users who believe it's unnecessary.

Thanks for schooling me on the shift key thing.

I surf much, much more than 10 minutes a day and can honestly say I never even thought about a feature like this. I'll have to play with it for awhile (the shift+click) and see if it's useful to me.

There may be a Firefox about:config setting that controls this that would give you closer to what you want but if so, I don't know what it is. Maybe one of the other folks can help.

I love your Firefox config idea.

I wish there was a way you could play with the exact Mac way of doing this. THAT'S the real way to do this.

The thing that kills me is my Asus laptop has arrow keys built right in. I'd love to reprogram the top and bottom buttons to do this.

  10. Will this make it one click? Or must the cmd button be depressed as well?

  11. I don't know what Asus laptop you have but my Asus Transformer Book T100TA has a very quick scroll on the trackpad and screen. One quick 2 finger flick on the trackpad took this FireFox page from bottom to top faster than a speeding bullet, I also tried it in a Word Document and it was just a little slower. One quick swipe on the screen was not quite as fast but did go from bottom to top, I also tried it in a Word Document and it was just a little slower.
You probably have Asus Smart Gesture installed on your laptop, I suggest you check the settings, mine are:
    One Finger All ticked
Two Fingers Only Scroll and Content moves reversly....... (my preference)
    Three/Four Fingers Nothing ticked
