Windows 10: Search isn't working

    Search isn't working


    I'm talking about pressing <Windows> and typing in a shortcut name that lives in
    C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.

    Simply put, it doesn't find the shortcut. And I don't feel like rebuilding the entire index, since I doubt it will solve the problem. This was broken on 7, 8.1, and now 10. You'd think they could index a particular set of files from a particular folder. *Sad

    I understand your concern, and we in Community will try to help you in the best possible way we can.

    This issue might occur if the settings are corrupted.

    I suggest you to follow the below methods to resolve this issue.



    Method 1: Run Search and Indexing Troubleshooter.

    Run the Search and Indexing troubleshooter and check if that helps you.

    Follow the steps mentioned below.

    a. Press Windows + X, select Control Panel

    b. Type “Troubleshooting” without quotes in the Control Panel Search box and hit enter.

    c. Select “System and Security” option from the Control panel.

    d. Select “Search and Indexing”.

    e. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.



    If the issue still persist refer to the below method



    Method 2: Enable Search Service.

    Ensure that Windows Search service is running with
    Startup type is Automatic.

    a. Press Windows and R keys together.

    b. Type “Services.msc” without quotes and press Enter.

    c. Double click on Windows Search service.

    d. Set the Startup type as Automatic and then click Start under Service status.

    e. Click on OK and save the changes.

    f. restart the computer and check the issue status.

    I can open the search thing and type something in but it gets stuck on a blank screen just saying best match and doesn't ever load
