  1. searchUI.exe causes Windows 10 Pro system to hang

I have a Windows 10 Pro system that is fully updated. My computer is a dual Xeon 2.4ghz system with 48gb of ram and an EVGA Nvidia GTX 1660 Super video card.

The problem that I'm having is that when the system is idle it freezes. When it is in use I rarely get this problem, although it has happened, but not as frequently. When it freezes the only way to get it back up is to do a hard reset. When looking at the Event Viewer the program SearchUI.exe is the source of the hang. I've turned off Cortana, which is apparently the source of this executable, but SearchUI.exe still operates and hangs the system.

Does anyone of any suggestions on how to stop this from happening?

    :)

    some .exe files hang

In the last 48 hours, some .exe files do not execute. If started from explorer, explorer hangs. No error messages. These files run on another Win 10 machine. Nothing obvious in the event viewer. I note that *.exe file cannot be deleted when the system is in this state. I must reboot to regain access to the .exe file. sfc /scannnow shows no errors.

    Any suggestions?

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
