  1. Second ISO Time?

I don't have any idea as to what the problem(s) is/are, only that this is what I have found:

    1. Dell tried to run its remote customer support program, which had worked in the past. Now, it crashes, with a quite meaningless error message almost entirely in machine language.

    2. Washington Post videos, which used to play, now do not play with Firefox 5.0, not eve with a new Fx profile that has nothing changed after creating it. I do get an error message, "Error loading media: File could not be played". They work fine with Edge. The videos work properly on my wife's Windows 10 Home computer, as well as those by a few people who were kind enough to test them for me.

    3. Hallmark E-cards, that used to load, certainly just before 4July2016, possibly later, now, when I click on the start arrow, all I get is the loading circle chasing itself around a circle. These also work with Edge. I was going to test them on wife's machine, but the site was down, and I did not get back to it. (Just tried, site would not load, but does on my computer, sigh.)

At first, ignoring the Dell program crashes, I though that the problem was with Fx 50 (possibly also with the 49.x versions, I am not sure when they started,) so I did quite a bit of testing to try to get WashPost videos to play, and wsa not successful. Yesterday, when I found that the E-cards no longer worked, I realized that it was time to seek assistance outside of the Fx forums on mozillaZine.

Is it time for me to do a second ISO, or are there other things to try first? (Some may recall the overly-lengthy thread here a few months ago about another strange problem, which ended by my `simply' doing an ISO repair.)

    :)

Windows 10 Spotlight - Strange behavior after Fall Creators Update

I am having this same issue. I can get it to work by messing around deleting settings.dat file flipping back and forth but the problem is it does not work for new accounts on an imaged computer. You have to mess around with it.

I would love for spotlight to be working on my sysprep imaged so all users get it.

Regarding iGetter, I presume you will be able to resume download. Anyway, as for the backup, nobody has been ever killed by a trial :-D: you can start the ISO download, stop it after a few seconds, restart your PC and see if you can resume it.

Let me know if this works.

  5. It would appear that I forgot to post that information, which is hereby offered at no charge:

    Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.447)

So it doesn't sound like too much is messed up with the OS itself. I was suspecting maybe you had deeper problems which usually prevents upgrading to the latest build. Next I would recommend you create a temporary local user account, switch the account type on the new temporary user to administrator. Log in with the account and see if the problem follows.

If the problem follows into the new temporary account, it is at the OS level. If the problem clears up in the new user account, then the problem is in your user account profile.

    Option 3:
User Account - Add in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Account Type - Change in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

  7. Before dealing with the topic, as you are US Navy, I have a story that I think will amuse. I was standing in line to take a tour of one of the WWII military airplanes at the Santa Fe, New Mexico, airport, when a really loud noise began, and shortly a Grumman Gulfstream I ( Grumman Gulfstream I - Wikipedia )came around the corner from the fixed-base operator area. As the aircraft was painted and marked in the wonderful color scheme of the U.S. Coast Guard, others in line wondered, with good reason, why the USCG would be at the Santa Fe airport. I was able to tell them: By law, the Rio Grande is a navigable waterway, despite parts of it, such as in the Albuquerque area, often going dry in the summer months; as such, it is under the USCG's jurisdiction, and the Gulfstream was at the time the service's executive airplane. I suspect that some of the top echelon were likely meeting with the governor.

Now, to your conjecture. Please do not jump overboard in your glee: I created a new account, and found that both the Washington Post videos and the Hallmark E-cards worked correctly!

Which, in the natural course of events, takes us to the next question, what do I do about the profile problem, something I have never dealt with? I have lots of tools in the garage; perhaps my 10-pound sledge hammer would suffice. If not, as I started the local volunteer fire department and was its first fire chief, I am sure that I could get them to bring me some heavy rescue tools....

Optionally, if I change the new profile to an administrator account and sign on to it with MS password, can I then go back to Settings and change the password (and can I also change the account name)? If that works, then I ought be able to delete the original account, I suppose.

    ===
Hmm: The new account that I created for testing uses a MS account, which I do not want to use. How do I create a new profile which is an admin one just for me? Sorry to be so obtuse, but, as I said, this is something for which I have very little experience, having set up one account, my own, upon installing Windows 7 a long time ago, which carried over to Windows 10.

A while later: I just found that I could have created a non-MS account for testing purpose, sigh. Can I create a new profile, using that module, along with my current user name and password, which would be a non-admin one, and then delete the existing admin account and change the new one to admin?

I really should stop pondering this matter, as just after I posted the paragraph above, I began to wonder how one could change a non-admin account to an admin one without there being an admin account on the computer. I shall now refrain from posting my musings and await proper guidance. This reminds me of a tee shirt I once had, which I would wear when leading hikes, "I must catch up my group, for I am their leader."

Can I figure out what I am doing, and if I do that, will I have to explain to myself what it was that I figured out?

    Second ISO Time?

Please read the portions of the tutorials I linked to carefully. You have to be logged into an administrator account in order to manage other accounts. You cannot have two accounts on the computer with the same name at the same time. Log into whatever account has administrator permission currently and follow the Option 3 steps here carefully:

User Account - Add in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

That will set up a local account with the exact username that you want (but you can't use a username that is already on that computer). Then, you don't have to log off or log into the new account - just as the next step change the account that you just created to an administrator. You can also use this step to change the temporary account you created earlier to an administrator if you want:
Account Type - Change in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Actually changing the username of an account after it is created is very difficult. So if you want a new account that has the same username as your first account, you need to go through a third account to do it. Create the temporary account, make sure to change it to administrator. Copy the data you want to save from the user profile of your old account to the temporary account. Delete your first account completely. Then create a new account with the first username and copy your data from the temporary account to the new account. Then you can delete the temporary account.

    In summary:

Log into account A - your original user account with administrator privileges.
Create account B and change account B to administrator. This is temporary account.
Log into account B - copy all data you want to keep from account A to account B.
Delete account A - deleting everything associated with account A.
Re-create account A as a new account, change it to administrator.
Log into account A - copy all data from account B to account A.
    Delete account B.

Once accounts are created, you can switch them between local logins and MS account logins very easily. But that only changes the method of login - it does not change the actual username of the account.

  9. Thank You! Your fine assistance is greatly appreciated. I have printed your last instructions and bookmarked the two linked tutorial pages for study.

Once I have accomplished the task, in a day or two, I shall mark this thread as solved.

    Lest I forget, Thank You!

  10. I am sorry to be such a pest, but (surprised?), I have yet another question: I am seeing conflicting information on-line on how to transfer data to a new profile, so what method do you recommend?

Just copy and paste the highlighted folders over:

    Second ISO Time? [IMG]

And possibly Saved Games too. You do NOT want to copy the NTUSER.DAT file or AppData folder. That is likely where the corruption causing the problem is located. You should be logged into the new user account and the new user account should be administrator type to copy the files/folders from the old user to the new user, the first time you try to access the old user account it will ask you for permission.

In the example photo, that would be the old user account C:\Users\John.

If I wanted to keep the username John, I would create a local user account like tempadmin. Make sure tempadmin is changed to administrator type account and log into it. Copy the files and folders from C:\Users\John to C:\Users\tempadmin. Go to settings, accounts, family & other people and delete the John account there. Then make sure C:\Users\John disappears off the C: drive - delete the John folder if it doesn't.

Then go back and add the John user account back in settings, accounts, family & other people and change it to administrator account type. Copy the files back, and delete the tempadmin account.

Instead of copy and paste, you might try cut and paste too, would definitely be faster but I like copy and paste in case something doesn't go quite right the original files are still available to try again.

  13. Second ISO Time?

I am going to mark this thread as closed, even though the problem itself has yet to be completely solved. My first attempt at creating a new Windows profile ended up with a corrupt document; I don't know how that happened, it might have been my floundering about.

I created a second new profile, where I quickly found some problems. For example, the email program Thunderbird, in User\John\App Data\Roaming, should have had a folder, Profiles, and below that, a text file, profiles.ini. These are used to allow Thunderbird users to have multiple profiles, and to choose between them. Instead, the Windows profile creation process extracted two profiles from the folder in my default Windows profile, and put them where the folder should be, and did not transfer the text file. There is a tutorial on moving Thunderbird profiles; I will use that to correct the Windows profile problem. The Firefox web browser has a similar, but less serious problem, but one that does need to be corrected.

Those are the most serious things I have found; some of the others were quickly fixed. Given the amount of time this process has taken, I have decided to just keep the new profile, rather than creating yet another profile when I make this one the default. I don't have to have "John" appear on the lock screen, after all.

So, again, please accept my thanks for your assistance with something that otherwise might never have been undertaken.
