Windows 10: Second monitor issue

Hello.


To explain my problem, I will need to give a lot of context, sorry for the long post.


I changed computer yesterday but kept the same 2 monitors that I had; a Benq 2730 the big one and a Benq 2270 the small one.


On my previous computer, the monitors where connected on an nvidia 970, the 2730 through HDMI and the 2270 via DVI. note: Windows 8.1


The new computer uses a Radeon 5700 xt and, 'only' have 1 HDMI connector and 3 displayport connectors. note: Windows 10, clean install


Thus, the monitors are now connected this way:

- 2730 has a HDMI connector but not Displayport so its connected in the only HDMI port

- 2270 has no HDMI nor Displayport connector so I had to get an DVI-to-Displayport Adapter.


When I connected the 2270, it worked instantly; I did not had to install any drivers or anything; both screen worked perfectly.


However, after maybe 5 minutes, the 2270 became blank, showed a 'no signal detected' while the 2730 continued to work normally and still is at the moment.


Looking in device manager, there is no sign whatsoever that the 2270 ever 'existed'. Its not showing that its 'disabled' or that there is a driver issue; its just not there at all. I tried the 'detect' option to no avail.


Thinking this might be the issue with wiring, I made sure the DVI wire was connected correctly on both ends and that the adapter also was.


I tried connecting it to the other 2 total 3 displayport connectors to no avail.


I rebooted and, much to my surprise, the bios POST message AND the Windows boot symbols the blue window sign and the 'spinning wheel' appeared on the 2270 but as soon as the boot sequence ended, the 2270 became blank again with the 'no signal detected' message while Windows 'moved' to my 2730.


I made several reboot tests:


- If I go to the bios, the bios uses the 2270

- If I boot Windows in safe mode, it detects the 2270!! and, if I go into the device manager, it does see the 2270 but no longer see my 2730 no signs of it whatsoever.


In safe mode, I downloaded drivers for the 2270 and 'attached' it to the 2270 in device manager but when I rebooted it 'forgot' it completely again.


Windows is completely patched, I have the latest drivers for my video card and the fact that both the Bios and Windows in safe mode detect AND use the 2270 means there is no hardware issue especially since, as stated previously, the 2270 did work as it should for the first 5 minutes or so.


I did not made any changes between the time I connected the monitor and it going blank, in fact I was only reading the news when in happened.


I could really use some help here.

Issues while installing a second monitor in Windows 10

Really? I get a canned answer and nothing else? I posted that I had tried everything that I could find posted online. I did read the post that Andre suggested multiple times prior to posting this request for help. None of it helped.

My computer does not recognize that there is a second monitor is plugged in. The small step of changing the settings so I can put stuff on the second monitor ISN'T the issue. I am not that dumb. in the device manager there is only the single monitor listed
at one point there was a unknown device listed but my computer did not know if it was a monitor or a printer.

There has to be someone out there that knows how to fix this

I would suggest you to download the display driver from the manufacturer's website. If there are no driver for windows 10, download the latest driver and install it in compatibility mode by following the steps below:

After you have downloaded the driver:



a) Right-click on the setup file of the driver and select "Properties".

b) Select "Compatibility" Tab.

c) Place a check mark next to "Run this program in Compatibility mode" and select the

appropriate operating system from the drop down list.

d) Let the driver install and then check the functionality

Second monitor screen resolution problem
