Windows 10: Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 Version...

After this security update was received two days ago July 13, 2020, my internet connectivity was broken and Windows Defender complained about my hosts file. About every 60 seconds, my hard wired ethernet connection was disconnected causing interruptions to my daily activities. Each interruption would seem to last about 10 seconds before programs e.g. Skype were able to access the internet.


With regards to my hosts file, I have nearly 1 million entries all pointing to 127.0.0.1 to block primarily advertising sites. Windows Defender began complaining about this file claiming there is a trojan/virus. However, Windows Defender would not identify exactly what the problem is. At one point, Windows Defender replaced my hosts file with a Windows default file. Fortunately, I have a backup that I restored from after booting into Linux.


Restoring my system to a date prior to receiving the above named update solved both problems.


By the way, my system is not infected.


The underlying hardware is MSI X399 Creation motherboard, AMD Threadripper 2990wx, 128 GB of memory, four SSDs. One 2TB SSD is Ubuntu 20.04, another 2TB SSD is Windows 10 Pro, and the other two smaller SSDs are data storage for my software development.
