    Dear all,


    I pray you're all well.


    I apologise if this specific question has been asked before, but I've not been able to find it.


    I'm trying to do some development work on my Windows 10 machine using Eclipse. During the normal course of development I'm frequently writing lots of small files. I recently recovered that my efficiency I'd being severely hampered by real time protection - when I turn it off a 30s deployment operation takes only 2s. As I do this frequently, this is a significant saving.


    However, I'd prefer not to turn off real time protection completely.


    Is there a way to turn it off only for selected directories, or for selected applications? Ideally, I'd like to disable it for my Eclipse workspace and temp directories.


    There do appear to be a few posts sound describing how to turn off Windows Defender for selected folders, but unless I'm mistaken this feature seems only to supply to system scans and not to real time protection?


    Any information appreciated.

    I did all the step and delete the MsMpEng.exe but still it doesn't turn on Real Time Protection any suggestion please??

    How do I turn off real -time protection?

    Hi Rahul,

    If you have Windows 10, you are getting the latest antivirus protection with Windows Defender. Windows Defender actively helps in protecting your PC from malware (malicious software), viruses, and security threats. Windows Defender uses real-time protection.

    To turn Windows Defender real-time protection on or off, follow the steps below:

    • Select the Start button, then select Settings >
      Update & Security.
    • Select Windows Defender, then turn Real-time protection
      on or off.
    If the on /off button is greyed out, refer to the answer of José Antonio
    Pontón Posada CEO on this thread for troubleshooting steps.
