Windows 10: setting dark/light mode after 1903 update

since updating win 10 from 1803 to 1903, I can no longer set different light/dark modes for windows and for apps.

before the update, I liked the windows mode light, and the app mode dark. but now, even though there is a separate switch for each, the app switch alone sets the mode, and the windows switch does nothing. everything is either all light or all dark.

anyone know of a fix for this?

The Dark Mode in version 1809 was either on or off, Microsoft improved this in version 1903 . . .

Click your Start Button, type winver and hit Enter

On the resulting dialog, what Version No. and build No. of Windows 10 are you running?

Are you running version 1903 of Windows 10?

If not, click the link below, then click 'Update Now' on that page to immediately get 1903 and bring your PC right up to date

In version 1903, you will have more options with regards to Dark Mode and light mode

In version 1903 you can set Windows 10 Dark Mode and Apps to light Mode, then turn on Dark Mode for each app you want to be dark

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Personalization - Colors

Set the top option - Set 'Choose your Color to Custom

Then set Windows Mode to Dark and App Mode to Light

You can also set App Mode to light or dark separately form Windows Mode and there is a new feature in 1903, where form each Apps settings, you can individually set an app to either dark or light mode . ..

How do you keep "lights on" in dark mode?

"Dark mode" refers to the Mail app's dark mode, common to Windows apps. Affects the color of the message list, menu bar, etc.

"Lights on" or "lights off" refers to the reading pane's background color, a feature recently added to Mail.

I'm asking if there's a way to set "lights on" to default, even if the Mail app is set to dark mode.

 

Dark Mode turning itself off after installing 1903 update

Since I update to 1903 I keep having this issue where the dark mode is turning itself off randomly. I have not found anything specific happening at the time i just boot up and default app mode turns to light. I set this back to dark and i am fine for awhile
again could be days or a week before it happens again.
