Windows 10: Setting Default Web Browser on Windows 10 Pro

I am unable to set change the default web browser on my lap top running Windows 10 Pro, I am logged in with Admin rights. If i go to settings in Google Chrome web browser and select Make Default Windows settings home page comes up a nothing else happens. If i click the start icon and type in Default Apps or Default Browser and select an option Windows settings home page comes up a nothing else happens. When I am in the Windows Settings home page and type in Default Apps or Default Browser and select an option related to those searches, the search menu closes and nothing happens. If I go in the Apps menu or System menu in Windows Settings there is nothing listed for Default Apps or Set Default Browser. How can I find these options so I can change my default browser to google chrome?

I would suggest you to try the steps below to choose a default web browser again and check if the issue persists.

1. Press Windows key + R.

2. Type control and press enter to open the control panel.

3. Type default programs in the control panel search box and open it.

4. Click "set your default programs".

5. From the list of programs, locate Google chrome or Microsoft edge, click on it and click "set this program as my default".

6. Save the changes and check again.

For Windows 10:

• 
  Select the start button, and then type
  Default app settings
  
• 
  In the search results, select default app settings
  
• 
  Under web browser, select the browser currently listed and then select Mozilla fire fox or another browser
  

For Windows 7, 8.1:

• 
  Go to control panel
  
• 
  In the search box, located on the upper right corner
  type Default programs
  
• 
  Click on Default programs
  
• 
  Click on Set your default program
  
• 
  Click on Mozilla Firefox
  
• 
  Click on Set this program as default
  
• 
  Click Ok

Unable to set Default web browser

Method 1:

I suggest you to install the latest windows 10 updates, please follow the steps to install all the windows updates.

If you want to check for the update now, select the Start button , then select Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Method 2:

Press Windows logo key + X, Click on control panel.

1. Click on default program.

2. Then, Select Set your default programs.

3. Select the program from the list.

4. Click on choose defaults for this program

5. And Click on save. You will be able to set the default browser.
