    I've decided to give all my home pc / network adapters a static ip.
    I've had a lot of issues with shared network resources and this was one of the recommendations

    So in my Billion 7800nxl i mapped my Network adapters IP address and Mac addresses.

    I then set my wifi adapter in my study PC to a static IP address. Whichs seems to have worked fine.

    i then tried to setup the ethernet network adapter on the same PC to be static as well but receieved an error message.

    it seems to be complaining about my routers Gateway address.
    As far as I am aware my router only has the one gateway address so what else should i be entering here ?
    Could someone please provide me with a solution.

    Does your router have a IP Address Reservation function? I prefer to use that to assign IP addresses to my various computers, phones, printers, and servers and leave all of the clients set to DHCP. This is especially good for portable devices like phones and laptop computers because they always get the same IP address when attached to my home network, but still work properly when away from home on other networks.

    i have set the router to only provide IP address dynamically if requested by he device . But i've set the range to start at 100. So all my static IP addresses are below that.

    When you set the static IP addresses, have you tried leaving the gateway IP address block blank?

    I quite agree, a much better way.

    Note that some routers have a bug that won't allow reserved addresses outside the automatic DHCP range!

    I never thought of leaving the gateway blank. all examples i've seen always fill it in. I will give it a try

    I believe you can also leave the DNS blocks blank too.
