Discus and support Setting Up a Second Router as a Repeater/Range Extender/Bridge in Windows 10 Network and Sharing to solve the problem; , You said in the OP of this thread that you have a Range Extender (NetGear Nighthawk AC1900). Yes, it does, Tracit, but it's three rooms away from this computer and I don't want to run 30 or 40 feet of cord to trip over. *Sad

Edit: We tried to get it closer to my computer room, but the range was just too far. *Sad

I get the picture of your situation now. Looks like your two best (least expensive) options are: 1) wait for the next build; 2) buy one of those USB/WiFi adaptors that were mentioned over in the Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16215 PC + 15222 Mobile Forum. It will use a different driver than your WLAN card in your laptop and will "probably" work. They are ridiculously inexpensive and are good to have around for situations such as this. (See CountMike's post). If you decide to get one, consider one with an external antenna. It should perform better than one with an internal antenna.

Pretty expensive for this particular situation, Samuria. The least expensive I saw IIRC was about $40.00.

"Tripping Hazard" Tracit! And believe me, I would trip over it every time I passed it! My knee still hurts from a header I took in my hall; can't remember what I tripped over, but . . .

It does have the ports, and I think that option should be explored first. That would be great it I can move it into this room.

Well, I'll be a Monkey's Uncle! I'm getting a signal from in this room!

Anyone ever heard the phrase "Much ado about nothing"?

If it is the insider build that is the problem, why not go back to a released build that does not have the problem?

I did that, but I'd like to test Build 16215. And now I can, since my Range Extender works in this room (I thought it would be too far away from the router to work) and I can plug my ethernet cable in.

Well, folks, I'm marking this thread as solved, since I was able to move my Range Extender and add an Ethernet Cable to my system. After all that, when I tried the update, it wouldn't!

Also, reading about the really bad results so many are having, I've decided not to go for Build 16215 at this time.

Thanks for all the suggestions/solutions and feel free to continue discussion on this thread, as it may help someone else.

Explanation of trying to get the Nighthawk closer to my system . . .

When we first set this up, neither my daughter nor I had any experience with networking, so I'm guessing we were just plain inexperienced and it would have worked, had we done things correctly. *Banghead

We did finally get it right, but three rooms away from my system . . . *Redface As I stated in another post, the Nighthawk Range Extender is now in this computer room and things are working fine with WiFi and Build 16199. I'm going to leave well enough alone for now.

And wired Ethernet is always better than Wi-Fi when it is convenient to use.

Have you tried connecting wired directly to your daughter's router just to see if it is your internet or not? Just for closure. *Smile

Not in this instance, sad to say. In my so very limited experience, trying to turn a WiFi connection into Ethernet doesn't work so well.

She ain't agonna go for that, Robot. Besides, that would put us into the tripping hazard zone.
