setting up accounts in windows 10 mail app

I just upgraded my Windows 7 computer to Windows 10, and I'm trying to set up the mail app to access other email accounts. One of them is Verizon.net email, which is supplied through AOL. When I try to add the account, I'm presented with a list of account types, none of which is AOL or Verizon, so I choose IMAP, POP option. This brings up a dialog box that asks for email address, name to associate with the account, and password. I access Verizon.net mail by going to mail.AOL.com, and using username *** Email address is removed for privacy *** to login. There's no place to enter this info in the Win10 mail app. I expect the smtp and pop server addresses will need to be manually edited also. The app is so dumbed down that it does not know how to deal with unusual account parameters. How can I get to a setting screen that will allow me to really specify how to access this email provider?

    :)

    Cannot open mail app settings

OK, my next suggestion was going to be uninstalling Mail and Calendar and reinstalling from the Windows Store. You can have a go at this by following these steps.

    1. Open the Start menu, type Windows PowerShell.
    2. Right click on the Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
    3. Enter the below command to remove the Mail and calendar app.

    get-appxpackage *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps* | remove-appxpackage

After performing the above steps, install the Mail and calendar app from the Windows Store.

Hope this helps, you will, of course, have to add you accounts back again.

setting up accounts in windows 10 mail app

Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. setting up accounts in windows 10 mail app :)

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)
