Settings: "Search results aren't quite ready yet" (UK - US ok)

Hi, if my language settings are USA, then search in Settings works.

But if I change the display language to British English, I get the well-known "Search results aren't quite ready yet, but we're working on getting them together".

Cortana search works (although I may be prompted to set language when changing language as above).

I have tried to find every case where language settings need to be changed to British English, and downloaded UK language packs and speech. Even when everything I can find is set to UK English, search in Settings fails.

However, if I revert to US English, it works.

I have read fixes about turning Cortana off and reinstalling apps - but this is usually where both Cortana isn't working and this message appears. This does not seem to apply in my case, and surely it should not be necessary to do that merely to support changing language.

    Any thoughts? Thanks!

    :)

"Search results aren't quite ready yet"

Thank you for the update regarding the timezone, region and your computer's display language are in order. Yes, as you mentioned, I was referring to your Windows display language to remove any confusion. Since there were recent updates on your computer that
had affected your device, were you referring to the new major update (Fall Creators Update) or a Creators Update?

For us to know, please provide us the version or build of Windows device. Press
Windows + R to open the Run window. Type
winver and press Enter. A new window will open showing the version and build number of your Windows device. Additionally, can you give us a screenshot of the recent Windows Updates? Blur any personal identification for your
    security.

It's possible that there are corrupted or incompatible updates with the system. The performance of your device may have been affected by the update which caused the searching to be slow. For the error
An error occurred while deleting the package's previously existing application data or code
0x80073D05, this error occurs if the application is already running in the background.

In the meantime, kindly perform a system restore from where your computer was working fine.

Keep us informed of any significant changes after a system restore.

"Search results aren't quite ready yet"

And by the way I have to mention that the search from the start button/"Windows key" on the keyboard and from what is now supposedly cortana still works

Where it's not working is when I open settings and the like, and as well as any of the other so called "Windows app" type programs (from the store, and the store app itself). For example if I open the settings app (by clicking on any wheelbarrow) --say for
instance the clock settings by right-clicking on the clock below-- then a "Settings" titled Window-app pops-up and I am asked to search-type what settings I want to modify. That's when the "not ready yet" drop down displays right below the search bar.

By the way it may be related but I also have another app problem: I can't install new Windows apps. In fact I never installed any one app. Everything I have is either already on the computer or auto-installed during Microsoft and PC manufacturer updates
subsequently. The Store app in other words, is simply not working, only updating existing apps. When I want to install a new app I end up gtting an error message 0x80073D05 every single time. Troubleshooting has not helped.

So.. clearly this new Windows 10 app thingy is buggy (even while I admit I'm not an expert on Windows apps since it never existed in Windows 7 or before). My whole issue seems to be one giant app problem. Thank god it's a laptop so I can install "classical"
desktop apps (applications) - otherwise I'd be totally locked out of everything now if my device had been an app-only device.

Settings: "Search results aren't quite ready yet" (UK - US ok)

Eventually solved after a couple of in-place repair installs and determined attempts to change the language and install UK English features as required. Found the system tray input method did not 'stick' on UK keyboard easily- had to keep changing it back from US. It seems to be ok usually- for now.

I recently changed my system language and lost the search in settings. Repair install didn't work.

I rebuilt the index and at the same time reinstalled the cumulative update needed after repair install through windows update. It is now working (with both languages).

I don't which fixed it (or if it was either really) but one thing I noticed on the release notes of the cumulative update...

kb3124200 (but all cumulative updates say this)

Mm, thanks.. that has been re-installed of course after the repair install.

MS certainly makes changing the language awkward.. and Cortana insists most things match up (she/it doesn't care about the keyboard though).

(I noted that if you deselect Users (or some part thereof presumably) in the search index locations, Settings is searched s-l-o-w-l-y).

As an in-place repair install respects most settings, (breaking the odd association and turning system restore off and needing me to set my WiFi connection up again) it won't repair everything... which makes it hard to predict as a recommendation.

    Hi there,

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but I have encountered this same problem and can't find a similar case that is due to the language change anywhere else. I have a US Surface that I changed to UK English but cannot get to search in Settings...

Apologies but I'm not very tech savvy so could you outline what steps you took to fix the issue? Did you have to repair install all of Windows 10? As my machine came with Win10 pre-installed, I wasn't sure if I could do this without a CD or USB with Win10 on it... Or is it just the cumulative update that needs to be reinstalled? Any help with how to do that?

Thanks so much for any help at all!!

Settings: "Search results aren't quite ready yet" (UK - US ok)

Hi, lx07's experience demonstrated the in-place upgrade repair install wasn't necessary. I did it 'cos at the time I was floundering, not able to find a suggested solution, and just wanted to get back to a stable state.

The key seems to have been (at that time at least) to have been related to the order in which the update was applied, and then the language change made.

So the idea would be sthg like this:
    a. change your language
    b. uninstall the last cumulative update (or Windows updates).
    c. allow them to reinstall

This does not require a boot medium.

However, note there are several things to change in changing language
Under (e.g.) Settings, Time & language
    Locale (Time, Region...)
    Speech language
    Display language
Keyboard (input method) [Cortana is insensitive to this]

As I recall there are a couple of downloads needed.
Cortana will prompt you if the language settings aren't consistent.

    Messy.

That worked! Thank you so much for your help! Sorry I misread what you had earlier. You were correct that I had to uninstall more than one cumulative update also, as I initially tried with the most recent one installed and saw no change.

Great- please mark solved if happy now. Win 10 is full of odd quirks that 'get you' when you're not looking.

Oddly, I just tried a system restore, and couldn't replicate this fix...

I restored as a program I had uninstalled would not disappear from the Notifications options list in Settings. Eventually I found this was another of Win 10's "quirks" and hasn't been fixed yet. As I had set a restore before fixing the settings search and also installing this program, I thought I'd try to go back, repeat the fix, and be content with my clear notifications list, but I couldn't get it working.

I took exactly the steps I did before: changing language (display language, input method and speech), uninstalled all updates and reinstalled, but still couldn't get it to work. In the end I reverted the system restore.

Any idea what I could be missing? I was on to Microsoft Support for 3 hours before finding and implementing this fix, so I think they may have done something I've missed, but I can't find any other possible settings for language. location or speech input...

    Hello,

I just did a clean installation of windows 10 pro and i am getting this message "search results aren't quite ready yet, but we're working on getting them together. try again in a few minutes". I did change the language from us to Canada, and I changed it for all the things you had listed. I already ran troubleshooter as well, without success.

My question is how many latest cumulative updates should i uninstall?

There have been so many updates that i do not know which one to delete?

    Thanks.

Settings: "Search results aren't quite ready yet" (UK - US ok)

There's something very odd about the way this is implemented. I've just been through this again after an in-place upgrade, and decided in future I'll just leave it as US and give up.

It's possibly even related to the order in which you make the several changes necessary to achieve your language configuration. So even if with a combination of display language, locale, speech language and probably sthg I've forgotten Cortana is finally persuaded to work, you may still get this message.

If I were to do it again, I'd do the in-place upgrade repair (or clean install) without updates, no internet connection, then make a disk image and create a restore point, then attempt the language settings changes with those fall-backs, and then reconnect the internet.

MS has made this really awkward and unreliable (in my opinion). It has become a matter of trial and error, until someone works out a completely reliable sequence.

Simple solution that worked for me:

    • Open File Explorer
    • Go to: "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Ind exed\Settings" (change username in path to whatever your username is)
    • There will most likely be a folder called "en-US", rename it to your computers language (I renamed it to en-GB) and everything works!
