Severe Instability in Windows Since Build 1903

12/30/2019 - I hope I'll be able to make it through this post, before another "freeze" or crash!

    HP p6724y

    4GB

    1TB HDD <30% used

Microsoft Office, Firefox, Edge, Quicken 2019 for Home & Business, Audacity, Stamps.com NO GAMING WHATSOEVER

Shortly after the 1903 Build update, I noted instability in the system. Some programs would take forever to load, if the did so, at all. I verified that my files were fine sfc /scannow and a Defrag analysis displays a 2% fragmentation of the drive. Over the past several months, the instability has risen to the point where launching almost any app results in a freeze/"Not Responding." I have to open Task Manager and keep it open and bring to cover the frozen app. Some of the time, that does the trick andthat program loads. If I try to open another app, it happens again and again, so on and so forth.

In the last two weeks, each time I attempt to open Quicken, it's a tug of war as to who "gives in" first - the computer by moving ahead with the load or me, by throwing things in my office, screaming, etc. The second reaction does nothing to help the computer. Moreover, if and when Quicken does open, the windows flash on/off or large/small, or just disappear altogether and I'm back at the desktop.

It's been several months of hell and I am honestly at my breaking point. I've worked in and on computers since the Commodore 64, through DOS, early Windows, etc. I've tried other scans and ideas posted in some of the other folks who have had problems since Build 1903, but none have helped. I am at the point of looking to replace this system, not due to "want," but rather, necessity. What would normally take me 20-30 minutes to pay some bills, print a few stamps, etc., now takes methree hours to accomplish the same task.

I'd appreciate any advice that might mitigate these problems.

    Thank you!

    :)

  2. PC Build Steps

Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval
    • Install system in case
      • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
    • Turn on PC
    • setup HDD
    • run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
      • run realtemp at the same time
    • While in Prime95 test
      • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
      • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
      • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!
    What do you guys think??

  3. 1903 Build causing issues on Ryzen build

So first of all my PC was running great before I updated to this 1903 build. But decided to update cause I wanted to try out this XBL Game Pass for PC and attempts at updating with 1803 installed kept throwing some error message at me about permissions.
So I figured I'd just do the fresh install. This is where my problems begin. Since doing this fresh install I've noticed increased instability with Windows 10 on my PC. Causing the spinning circle freeze to happen (mostly notably with chrome which worked fine
    before the update).

Attempts to use task manager completely deadlocks the PC resulting in needing to shutting down the PC. Really at a lost right now.

    Steps I've taken so far:

    1. Fresh install of Windows 10
    2. Checked all drivers with MSI making sure they were up to date (Refused to install the AMD raid drivers though. Said ineligible or nothing compatible when I brought up the installation)
    3. Check System File integrity through sfc /scannow (no problems)
    4. Checked my memory through Windows Memory diagnostics (no issues)
    5. Check for viruses and malware on PC (came up clean)
    6. CPU temps look fine (recently installed Kraken X62 and still staying below 60c under load with 80f room temp)
    7. My Ryzen 2600X also had it's overclock removed since updating BIOS only the default boosting is on
    8. Checked my SSD firmware and that's up to date
    9. Windows 10 1903 build completely up to date
Any advice would be welcomed please.
